Has anyone else had a lumpectomy/biopsy? |
|
I'm wondering how the recovery was and when you felt able to go back to full activity. I don't trust the doctor's answers on this. If one more doctor tells me that I'll feel slight discomfort when it freakin' hurts, I may hit them.

1. Oh Cally, sorry to hear you have to have one. |

I've never had either and can't answer about the pain. I do have a friend in Canada who had one done and thankfully it turned out not to be breast cancer but a non-malignant tumor.
Let us know how you're doing! When is surgery?

They are fairly sure this is breast cancer but in the VERY early stages. Unless they find something totally unexpected, this should be the end of it. Thanks for the good wishes.

That it is in the early stages....excellent chances for complete recovery!
Hope the pain is minimal....buy some great wine in advance and have it chilled for when you come home! :)

4. I haven't had any experience with that particular procedure, |
|
although I've had two situations where they did needle biopsies in my breast. That wasn't especially painful, but I can imagine a lumpectomy could be. Anyway, I'm sorry you're going through this, and I'll send good vibes for as pain-free a procedure as possible, and a positive (as in GOOD) diagnosis.

5. I hope all goes well for you - minimal pain and good results |
|
I don't have first hand knowledge of this but wanted to let you know one more person is thinking of you.
As to your dr. telling you you'll feel only slight discomfort, have you ever wanted to reach down, grab his "nuts" and say, don't worry, you'll only feel a slight discomfort? Yeah, I'm evil and vindictive some days.

6. I had a surgical biopsy in about 1990 |
|
I was bandaged on that side and about two bra sizes bigger for a few days, due to the bandages, but I don't recall any particular pain around the incision or anything. (I was awake during the procedure.)

7. I've had a stereotactic biopsy. |
|
If it's a stereotactic, ask a nurse if you could have some tylenol in you for "discomfort" and some xanax or valium if you are nervous and/or needing to be absolutely still for 30 minutes or so. You won't be able to take the "nerve" pill until after you've signed the paperwork, though.

Realized you were talking about lumpectomy. They'll probably give you happy juice and deaden the area to be worked on. They should prescribe you something for pain for at home if needed, although you might have to push for a prescription "just in case". Sometimes the doctor's office will give you the prescription beforehand so you can get it filled and have it at home waiting for you. If you live more than an hour away, having the pain killer available for the ride home might be advisable.

Take at least a couple weeks off if you can...and yeah..(given that I know you) you have boobs and the more "pull" you have on the area, the more it hurts according to my friend
