1. I wish the anti-choice bigots |
|
would admit their true agenda. If they were truly against abortion, they'd be supporting efforts to make contraception more reliable and more readily available - but the same people fighting against abortion rights are fighting making contraceptives available. They know perfectly well that making abortion doesn't stop it. It never has, never in the history of humanity. Women have always found ways to terminate unwanted pregnancies. Criminalizing abortion just makes them more unsafe, thus punishing women for the crime of having sex.
And that's what they really want; control of women's sexuality and fertility.
Bastards.

5. Notice how he mentions contraception |
|
Where he acknowledges that there are "some" on his side who object to contraception. Those are the "some" who are pushing for these abortion laws and the same "some" who will be agitating for restrictions on birth control once they get their way with this. And he will no doubt pen stupid articles to defend that point of view. Anti-choicers' hatred of women is palpable.

Intellectual honesty dictates we should all found our arguments on substance, rather than emotionalism.
I agree.
While there are some on the pro-life side who don't believe in contraception at all, the main reason for opposition to "emergency contraceptives" is that, while they can prevent pregnancy by preventing fertilization of the egg, they can also prevent the already fertilized egg from implanting in the wall of the uterus--which, since conception has already occurred, is an abortion....The unique person has already been created when the sperm fertilizes the egg; the embryo is just attaching itself to the mother's uterus to draw the life-giving nourishment he or she will need during the nine months until birth.
A fertilized egg is not a baby or even an embryo, it is a fertilized egg--a cluster of cells. It is not a "unique person". Therefore it is not an abortion, but merely the expulsion of some microscopic cells from the uterus that occurs.
Is every one of your sperm cells half of a "unique person". Every time you masturbate or have a spontaneous emission of semen should you be charged with child abandonment?
But God gave us a mind to think with, in addition to our powerful emotions. No one could ever say it was "fair" to carry the child of a rape to term, but unfortunately (and I don't say this flippantly, just truthfully) life just isn't fair sometimes. If we accept that the fetus is human life--and DNA and other medical science tells us without a doubt that it is--then we would be ending a human life to abort even the child of a rape.
You keep speaking of a fetus and a child. Does that mean it's ok to abort a blastocyst? An embryo? If so, why are you against the "morning after pill"?
Heather Gemmen is a woman who was raped and became pregnant, but ended up carrying the baby to term, then keeping the little girl. Her incredible story can be read at Focus on the Family.
I'm sure her story is touching, but aren't you the one who implored us to found our arguments on substance rather than emotionalism?
Sorry Bob, you just haven't convinced me.
I am utterly amazed at how many of these anti-choice apologists are MEN! :eyes:

4. Calling a fertilized egg... |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 09:12 AM by Branjor
a "child" or a "unique person" is like calling a pile of bricks and mortar a "building". Or calling a canvas, some paint brushes and paints a "work of art". The ingredients are just the ingredients, not that which they have not yet been assembled into (and may never be).

9. Funny how they have so much regard for a fertilized egg |
|
that they call a "unique person", yet so little regard for the millions of "unique persons" in jails, living on the streets, over in foreign countries we just happen to be at war with, who happen to be of the "wrong" religion, etc. Bloody hypocrites. :grr:

8. The vast majority of fertilized eggs never implant anyway! |
|
Mother Nature flushes at least half of them out. Implantation occurs in probably less than 40% of cases of fertilization. What are these people going to do, run around examining women's menses to rescue the "babies"?

10. Maybe they should shoot God |
|
He's the biggest "abortion doctor" of them all considering all of the fertilized eggs that don't implant, and all of the miscarriages that occur naturally. :sarcasm:
