a MAJOR thrift store lighting find, and a "we've got parts, will they work
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 04:33 PM by AZDemDist6
project

first the find, I have looked online and comparable lamps cost over $200. I found this one stuck behind the standing floor lamps in my local thrift store for $18. I cleaned it up and added a new bulb (also $18 LOL) but what a score!

you can see (sorta) in this pic an art piece I picked up for $8 and painted the wood frame to match the rest of the trim

this is what we removed:

took it apart, added some white paint and re-used it in another part of the room

total for two "new" lamps in the living room? $38

1. You deserve your own HGTV show!
Well done all around. And what amazes me about you two is that you get something and then get the job done one, two, three. No waiting around like me.

The new lighting fixture is a gas. It's vintage and modern all at the same time. Was it in your stars to find it? Hee! I see your books. And is that an atlas of aquarium fishes? I have that one and it looks the same. No aquarium here but I just liked the book. Fun to take camping and look through.

Congrats on your terrific find. How did someone toss such a treasure.

2. yes on the aquarium book, we don't have time to keep fish alive
these days though..

as for the lights, there were three similar to that, mine, a floor lamp showed up about three days later and a desk lamp in the same style. I just figure someone remodeled

as for "Was it in your stars to find it?" I think it was... We were at the bank and I told DH "We have to go across the street TODAY to the Savers. Our lamp is there, we have to go TODAY"

he was tired and grumbled a bit but sure enough--there is was! hehehehe

3. I know that TODAY feeling
And there's no denying it. Just a feeling that it has to be today, right now and no arguments.

4. we are looking for long oval cobalt blue shades to add to the "remix" lite
they will be tricky to find though, as it currently has a 1" base and those are hard to find without going more "victorian". we found some that had a 2" base we could had rigged up, but I didn't like the upscale retail price!

I think the score lamp is very "art deco" (at least that's what springs to mind for me)
