My 1st Frugal Post: I got my gorgeous new kitchen sink at the ReStore!
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 08:10 PM by IndyOp
I sold my small house in June and bought a smaller house (thereby reducing my monthly payment by several hundred dollars per month) - :-)

My new house was built in 1920. The prior owner had lived here for 40 years and done no updating since the 50's. The kitchen was the worst - soaked in decades of grease. The countertop and old sink had to go.

Everything has been costing too much money - including, especially, the help I have needed to drywall, rewire the house, replace the furnace and ductwork, intall lights and appliances.

When I went to Lowes, I really liked the 'offset' sinks, but there was no way could I justify paying $200 for a new sink + more $$$ for a new faucet.

My friend had just visited our local 'ReStore' and spotted a sink she thought I should check out. I went to check it out and wound up buying a gorgeous designer stainless steel offset sink with faucet already installed for: $5! (The faucet is a plain old faucet - which is fine!).

:woohoo:

Do you have a ReStore? ReStores have popped up across the US - they sell used building materials and the sales benefit Habitat for Humanity. I donated windows and a sump pump to the ReStore before I sold my old house in June. Our local hardware store donates space for the store and community members volunteer their time. Community members (and some businesses) donate materials that are in good condition and proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity. Smart recycling program and smart fundraising program! Here is the KC ReStore.

1. wow! that beats my story hands down, what a score! I love stories
like this. Can you get us a pic?

an update on my sink is that what I thought was damage to the enamel turned out to be years of hard water spot build up. I soaked the bowls in vinegar and they sparkle like new again

3. It's
run by Habitat for Humanity; if you can't find it just call their office and ask.
