Question: Hajib Etiquette |
|
Is it rude to comment on a Muslim woman's hajib?
In other words, if her head scarf is pretty or interesting, would it be rude of me, an non-Muslim female to compliment her on it?
I ask because I know there is a religious significance to the hajib, and Muslim women do not wear them as fashion statements. However, some Muslim women seem to have several, and in various colors, patterns, etc. - so it almost does seem like another item of clothing - and I would think nothing of complimenting a woman on her blouse.

1. No, it's not rude at all. |

Muslim women have different reasons for wearing the hijab. Some don't even view it as a requirement of their religion. IMHO, it's a personal decision and a matter of interpretation. My mother wears one while my sister (and more than half of my female relatives) do not. Additionally, my mother wears different kinds like the kinds you mentioned... so complement away. :)
