WLOX wins Peabody Award
http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/14271398.htm

ATLANTA - WLOX-TV 13, the ABC affiliate in South Mississippi, won a Peabody Award today as one of only two Gulf Coast stations that stayed on the air throughout Hurricane Katrina.

WLOX-TV, which kept South Mississippi residents informed even after broadcasters were forced to the halls when the roof of their building was blown off, and WWL-TV, which judges said was the only New Orleans station to broadcast through the storm and its aftermath, were both recognized for their coverage.

CNN and NBC also were honored for their coverage of the deadly storm

They earned it too. WLOX was a lifeline for days after the storm. Watching them during the storm on a teeny battery operated tv kept me somewhat sane during that endlessly long day. They also were broadcasting on radio.

It was freaky as hell when the anchor stood up and said "Gotta go" and then the feed disappeared. A short time later they were back. Part of the roof had blown off so they moved to a hallway and continued reporting.
