Resume--little experience? |
|
Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on how to organize my resume when I don't have very much work experience, etc. I'm still in college and I'm trying to draft a resume for internships, so I think they will be more accepting of the fact that I have little experience but how can I organize it in a way that it doesn't look completely blank?
What I basically have is..part-time retail experience June '05-Present and I'm in the honors program @ my university. No other clubs or activities to speak of really.
Any advice? Thanks so much.

1. emphasize the education part of it |
|
more than work experience. If you are looking for internships they are probably more concerned with school than work anyway.

Is it appropriate to put my GPA on the resume if the employer doesn't ask for it?

like are we talking 3.7 or higher? otherwise no. And if it's that high, you should be Dean's List or something, right? that's even better. Seriously, don't volunteer information unless it really sets you apart.
unless, of course, they ask for it, then lie, lie, lie. :)

6. Unless they ask for a transcript, lol |
|
I've heard 3.5 and above as being a resume-worthy GPA.

8. you've never altered a transcript? |
|
at my beloved alma mater, it's only a computer printout (pretty sketchy, actually, for a top 20 school, I've had an employer ask me for an original, thinking I was handing him a copy...)

2. When I was in college, I was told to put my references right on the resume |
|
My references being the contact info of professors and a work-study supervisor who had said they would recommend me to the interviewers. It might help to flesh out your resume if you don't have much work experience under your belt. :hi:
