anybody making it in the art world?
do you know how to make a small fortune as an artist?

start with a large one.

seriously, it cost me $400 to make $100 in my last show. and that was a good one.
and i have a small fortune invested in buttons.
as far as that goes, it is a lot a matter of time and energy. if i went to every demonstration and made the rounds of the peace groups, i could probably make some money on it. i had hoped to get more business through my website, but it is slow. i do do google ads, but i think i get about $1 in sales for $50 in ads.
i have had some serious health problems that have gotten a lot better. but i don't have a lot of energy by evening, and that is when a lot of art stuff, as well as peace meetings happens. this is where the work/family conflict kinda comes in, as i could shift my clock if my kids, who are totally big enough, could get themselves up and off to school in the morning. that will get worse next year when the worst one goes to high school.
than there is the problem of spending too much time on du!

1. Check out Ebay. Today - 27th - it costs a dime to post an auction.
Also, they have a store option which is $15 a month I think - cheaper then your $50 for every $1 sale. What's your web site?

maybe i need to make my sig a lot bigger. i rarely get hits from du.
i have been thinking about the ebay thing. i can't see getting what i want for my fine art there, but i should be able to do buttons. i dread the hatemail, tho.

3. Have you seen this website?
http://www.wetcanvas.com/

Looks interesting. Lots of different types of art for sale, and everything seems to be very high quality.

4. online galleries
i have work here-
i am in a couple of others. so far, it has brought me nothing but people looking to get my money! either vanity galleries, other on-line galleries, or scams from nigeria.
mine is a good one, but it is money. it's a good organization, so i don't mind.
part of the problem is that my work is both large scale and subtle, and presents poorly both in slides, and in low res webshots. it is just physics.
i have been doing some smaller scale clay work lately that will come off better. need to get that all out there. more money!

5. You don't have to sell through their site or pay for registration.
I'm a registered member, and have never gotten spam or any other unwanted emails. I don't sell through the site...I use as a resource for its articles on how to market via the web, photograph my work (I make jewelry), and other info on how to best utilize the web for my work. They have tons of great forums.

I've seen the types of sites you are referring to...this is not one of them.

6. Back in the Clinton era I made a small fortune as an artist
OK, so I was a commercial artist (illustrator), but I was making a nice six figure income....then BushCo stole the presidency, now I'm barely making it. :-(
