<snip>
Clearly, Richards didn’t have the talent for any of this. And perhaps, given recent history, there’s nothing a white man can say about the N-word that’s funny. But instead of asking for cash, as Richards’s hecklers are now doing, I wish they could have served their revenge the old-fashioned way.

I’m reminded of that infamous exchange in cricket, when the Australian bowler Glenn McGrath tried to break the concentration of the Zimbabwean Eddo Brandes by asking why he was so fat. Brandes replied: “Because every time I f*** your wife, she gives me a biscuit.”

20. No, my hostility makes a great deal of sense
In many threads, I and others have asked for people claiming that the men are owed some compensation to explain what cause of action they have. None have been able to provide a reasonable argument; most resort to, "If you don't think they should be compensated, you're defending racism!"

22. So why attack the people pointing out that they'll get thrown out of court?
Since no one's put forth any evidence that there's a claim here, the judge will be granting a motion to dismiss for failure to state a claim upon which relief can be granted - a 12(b)(6).

9. Hell of a situation we got here.
Two on, two out, your team down a run and you've got the chance to be the hero on national television... if you don't blow it. Saw your wife last night. Great little dancer. That guy she was with? I'm sure he's a close personal friend, but tell me, what was he doing with her panties on his head?

Uh-oh, Rexie, I don't think this one's got the distance....

10. I remember when Sam Kinison was being heckled...
Two girls were shouting something and trying to interrupt his act. He paused and then said this in a deadly voice:

"Trust me, assholes. The LAST THING in the world you want is my undivided attention."

Classic. It shut them up immediately.

14. Good one
The key point here is that if Richards was at all funny, his comeback would not have been an expression of racist anger.

There is always a good comeback for hecklers/sledgers/whatever.

36. Some have it, some don't
A friend's son, who made it big doing rap on this side of the pond, had this uncanny talent to do it extemporaneously AND make sense!!! I WAS IN FUCKING AWE. He would rhyme, change cadence and meter and at the end of it all would come a perfectly well thought out and coherent message. :wow:

39. That is awsome, and talent is amazing.
That's why I hate that the Rethugs tried to take funding for the arts out of the schools.

But every artist flubs sometimes and bombs. No one is 100% perfect all the time. Those who have routines try to avoid that the best they can and only use stuff they know will not bomb. It's smart, but not risky. The big picture with Richards is that it will make artists very afraid to take risks.

40. I don't think so...
I think it has the potential to spur artists to really rummage through their trunks. Ya know, Mad, my take on MR is that he and his circle are ALL "stealth" racists. Trotzdem, I feel for him. He has no real power. Just the power to destroy himself. When Jesse Jackson said after reciting Trent Lott's CV "...and MICHAEL is on the hot seat?" I HOWLED.

entertainment and some uncontrolled, unprofessional loose cannon. Sam's "outbursts" were rehearsed and were very controlled, part of his act. He was pure gold.

37. When I was poor and down on my luck in Los Angeles...
I had the unglamorous job of selling flowers on a street corner of Sunset and Crescent Heights. Kind of an iffy neighborhood at nights.
Anyway, there was a comedy club down the street, I forget the name. from time to time comedians would buy flowers from me. They were all really cool and tipped well.
Then one night up pulls a firebird, old style with the big firebird emblem on the hood. All it needed was a van halen decal on the back to be complete.
And lo and behold who was it, but Sam kinison. He asked for my largest bouquet. Now I clearly know who the guy is, but I don't like fawning over celebrities and this time I certainly didn't because I think he was put off that I didn't get all wishy washy when I saw him.
He says to me, "you know who I am right?" I should have said no, lol but I said sure and shrugged. He said to me, that won't get you big tips. I then said, "I sell flowers on a street corner in the middle of downtown hollywood, I get plenty of tips". He pulls out a roll of hundreds, makes sure I get a good hard look at it then gives me a 5 dollar tip.
I liked his comedy, but he had a massive ego and plenty of other famous people far more famous than he was that I sold to were so much nicer and tipped very well.
There is a concept that many famous people seem to forget, being a celebrity doesn't entitle a person to be a jerk.
