37. When I was poor and down on my luck in Los Angeles...
I had the unglamorous job of selling flowers on a street corner of Sunset and Crescent Heights. Kind of an iffy neighborhood at nights.
Anyway, there was a comedy club down the street, I forget the name. from time to time comedians would buy flowers from me. They were all really cool and tipped well.
Then one night up pulls a firebird, old style with the big firebird emblem on the hood. All it needed was a van halen decal on the back to be complete.
And lo and behold who was it, but Sam kinison. He asked for my largest bouquet. Now I clearly know who the guy is, but I don't like fawning over celebrities and this time I certainly didn't because I think he was put off that I didn't get all wishy washy when I saw him.
He says to me, "you know who I am right?" I should have said no, lol but I said sure and shrugged. He said to me, that won't get you big tips. I then said, "I sell flowers on a street corner in the middle of downtown hollywood, I get plenty of tips". He pulls out a roll of hundreds, makes sure I get a good hard look at it then gives me a 5 dollar tip.
I liked his comedy, but he had a massive ego and plenty of other famous people far more famous than he was that I sold to were so much nicer and tipped very well.
There is a concept that many famous people seem to forget, being a celebrity doesn't entitle a person to be a jerk.
