How will organized labor deal with the new political reality in DC?

Organized labor will be facing a new reality when Republicans takeover the House and increase their numbers in the Senate, so what will be their priorities? Doug Cunningham takes a look.

The AFL-CIO will continue to aggressively pursue a working family agenda as the new Republican majority takes power in the U.S. House. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says creating jobs and a solid economic recovery are top priorities.

: Working Americans will not rest until good jobs are created and the people responsible for destroying the jobs are held accountable. The AFL-CIO will continue to mobilize every day to create jobs and demand that Republicans and Democrats step up to the plate.

Trumka says voters want both political parties to work together, but that doesn’t mean compromises that continue to favor the corporate and wealthy elite.

: People think that Washington is broken and leadership on both sides of the aisle need to step up and work together. But that doesn’t mean compromising for the sake of it or caving in to what’s best for corporations and the wealthy. It means working together to create jobs and help working families.

1. I would offer that labor in America would do well to consider
building their own media outlets and formulating national strategies to counter the likes of right wing hate radio and FOX News. The facts are clear. Right wing and corporate media have grown to such an extent that without a coordinated response from the left and labor, we will continue to have millions of Americans voting against their own interests.

2. Whatever they are planning I hope they share these ideas and goals
with those us. I find that when they want something done I usually want it also and it gives me the direction for the actions I need to take. Please keep us informed.

3. I think they're going to be fighting
in all 50 states at once as each state tries to balance its budget.

I think it will be hard for them to develop or stick to any type of plan other thn run over here, now over there.
