Reiter Automotive Employees Secure New Contract (2/16/11)

The RWDSU membership at Reiter Automotive in Oregon, Ohio have helped the auto parts manufacture survive tough times, and even expand, with new equipment and product lines being introduced at the facility. Now, the 280 RWDSU members at the plant will be working under the new three-year contract that they have just ratified.

The new contract safeguards the union pension plan, and brings wage increases for the workforce. There are also improvements to the health care plan.
“Going into these negotiations, the company was pushing hard for radical changes to the pension plan,” said Jeff Hendricks, a machine operator with 18 years on the job at Reiter. “We have a very good pension plan, and we made keeping it our top priority. We kept it – for every single member employed at the plant.”

RWDSU members at Reiter manufacture molded carpet for flooring and side panels of vehicle interiors, for the big three American car companies and also some foreign automakers. The facility has been growing and adding jobs since picking up some important new contracts, including the Ford F-150 line.
“This plant has been able to survive some very difficult times in the auto industry, and now it is growing. Much of the credit has to go to the workers here, who put everything they have into the work here,” Hendricks pointed out.
