(I knew DU would have a place for me to ask this...:))
I dearly want to take Amtrak from Emeryville (Oakland, CA) to DC next year. It involves taking the California Zephyr to Chicago (a bit over 2 days) and a second train to DC (another 17 hours). I've been following the trains on-line. There's a three hour delay at Chicago to change trains, which one would think would be enough, but the Zephyr has been running 6 hours late. Sometimes even 8 hours.
1) do you think this is standard, or are things still messed up because of the flooding?
2) if I should miss the train to DC because the Zephyr is late, will Amtrak put me up for the night in Chicago? This is going to be a long enough trip as it is without adding another day.
Maybe we need Mussolini to make the trains run on time. Or maybe someone ought to slap the Union Pacific around so they stop messing with Amtrak's schedule.

1. I'd set out a day earlier than you need to |
