2. If you repeat it enough times
it sounds like the truth. The people the talking heads talk to listen because they think someone is on their side. They have no conception of what is really happening. They listen and then dig their own holes that they can not crawl out of. The talking heads will not be there to pull them out. The talking heads will just blame the democrats for the mess and walk away.

3. Right wing radio
is big because they get all the sponsors, pushing big businesses agenda. The left talks for the environment and populist positions. Much more money coming in for the right, 50 million a year please, nobody is that entertaining

8. You have the correct explanation.
RW causes have become indistinguishable from corporate causes. This is why we hear Limbaugh rail against global warming science, why we hear him rail against financial services industry reform and why we hear him rail against health care reform. And this is why Limbaugh is paid like he is. Limbaugh provides a tangible service to these lucrative corporations.

Every spec of the outrage directed at President Obama and Democratic causes has been generated due to corporate influence in one way or another.

4. I am so tired of the argument of false equivalency . . .
To suggest that Rachael Maddow is "extreme" -- some sort of mirror image of Limbaugh -- is just plain dishonest. Unless these talking heads really are that stupid and lazy and unable to make distinctions. By any standard (subjective or objective) Keith Olbermann isn't a tenth as crazy as Glenn Beck, and no one on the left comes within a light year of the meanness of Michael Savage.

Is everybody on the left as modulated and earnest as Maddow? Of course not. But to pretend that there's any real balance of extremism out there is absolute piffle.

10. Plain dishonest is right!
There is NO equivalency. Anyone saying there is an equivalency simply has never watched or listened to Rachel.

9. Well CNN, they would be less powerful if you stopped acting like they are legitimate journalists!
This is why most News programs on television are a TOTAL JOKE!

CNN actually lends credence to these lying mouthpieces by interviewing and quoting them. CNN is horrible.

15. This is a problem that we Americans have: We can't get over this mythological...
connection between all things media = all things cultural.

Yes, radio talk shows carry a lot of rhetorical weight, but they do not guarantee outcomes in culture or in politics. That sort of deterministic assessment of talk radio is about as realistic as believing that WWF wrestling is real. It's that magical leap that people assess those institutions they can't see or understand.

Are the media powerful? Yes. But some media sometimes and with only some people.

There's also this terrible habit among Americans to categorize anyone on television with a political opinion as a "journalist." That's also wrong. Some journalists report, but if you start straying into the world of opinion, unless you are writing that opinion from a neutral starting point, you really aren't following journalistic ethics. You are a columnist or blogger, but you are NOT a journalist!

There's a lot of ignorance and naivety in the general public for the news media. Many blanket assumptions are made about how "they" all operate and how "they" all think, especially ideologically. And for the most part, it's crap.
