2. now that's frightening
It looks like the horse is out of the barn though.
I hate to be a pessimist, but it seems like we would never ever be able to reverse this trend, even if a vast majority wanted to reverse it.

4. Here, once again is another instance of the utter corruption of the system we live under....
...and yet no one knows what to do with the information because of ''The Great Disconnect.'' That disconnect being where everyone's mental programming is based upon the concept of the ''rule of law'' -- so everything gets filtered through that. But, ''the rule of law'' http://rt.com/programs/keiser-report/episode-218-max-keiser/">is no longer operative. Hasn't been for a while now. For some, it never applied. Except for Proles. The rule of law always applies to Proles. Hardly ever in their favor.

- You see, if the rule of law were operative, there would be a lot more bankers in jail. And people like George W. Bush and Dick Cheney......

K&R

"The revolution is not going to happen tomorrow -- it's never going to happen.

It's taking place right now.

It is an alternate universe that runs parallel to this one, waiting for you to switch sides."

8. On Sixty Minutes tonight, it was stated that
The number of lawsuits initiated against the banking community for fraud is at a twenty year low!

So your frowney face should really be even more frowney!

5. I've known about this for years.
I think a lot of people here have. The information doesn't cover a lot of what has gone on. Not just communication capturing, but communication disruptions at times when a disruption could cause harm. Also, psychological manipulations. There was a period of time a few years back when people would drive by me when I was walking down the street, shouting out elements of private phone conversations I had to me, and the like. I don't know who I pissed off, but they wanted me to know they were watching.

'Who is it?' is the real question. After 9/11 we moved in to a period of time when if somebody was breaking into your house, it was impossible to tell if it was a criminal or government agent, the line had become indistinguishable and has basically remained there. The right operates under the assumption that these forces are government, the left is more likely to see them as rightists partisians or corporate forces... But the most common reaction people have to encountering signs of being spied on is to say nothing, for fear the spies are listening and there will be retribution for talking, but it effects many people, usually those most outside the box and likely to innovate, so the nation is stagnating deeply under this unspoken Orwellian oppression.

Assange is wise to propose no solutions, for there are no simple ones. First amendment remedies exist which could prove disruptive to aspects of the system, but it would adapt long term, simply because people embrace it through their cell phones and thus the system. We can't ask the government to not listen to our phone calls while Tony Soprano does, because this is the only way they can keep Tony in check. Similarly, if one company is doing it, the others need to, to compete. But as they collect more and more data on us, where does this competition end?

Its interesting to notice the parallels between the current spy tech race and the previous arms races in the late 19th early 20th century. These arms races seemed like they would go on for ever near WWII, with killing devices getting ever more and advanced and deadly forever. But in that case, there was very much an end, in the thermonuclear bomb. It was the card so high nothing trumped it, and remains so to this day. I suspect that the spy tech game will converge on a similar technology, a bomb that will be represent the end of that road so people can finally stop obsessing on it.

7. That option exists.
Our capacity to do so depends upon our ability to fully and frankly face the current situation - Its about letting the comfort of normalcy go, and trusting in the guidance provided to us by pure reason, however counter-intuitive the results of our checked calculations are in terms what we are used to. :)

11. No, we need to think with our ASSES, not our hearts.
We need to be irrational. Look at the enemies our country has faced: The Soviet Union, the place of scientific rationality and secular centralized planning. It collapsed with nary a whisper, surrendered its territories. But the batshit Taliban? 2 billion a week we are spending with no end in site, total debt, financial Armageddon facing us soon. We live in a world where the strong ones appear to be absolutely freaking crazy. So apparently that's what we need to embrace.

OR, we could embrace a kind of rationality where the wheels actually hit the road, science made fundamental, no longer taking a backseat position to the various ghoulish pig demons of our current political scene.

13. This would be a great OP.
Very interesting read. Very scarey, but I can certainly relate.

I know that the three top voting activists in the US all died of a rare cancer.

Two of these people were women in Florida in the seventies. And they knew each other. And they both got the same one in a billion cancer? Then you talk to people who understand microwave abilities and electronic frequencies, and it doesn't take much to see to it that a transmitter of some sort beams a bad wave frequency into your house.

14. I meant the last paragraph in the above
To indicate a speculative possibility for the cancer.

I have no proof. But several voting activists in Florida don't think it was a random coincidence, but planned and deliberate.

17. Yeah, that, plus other widespread abuses. I've seen it all.
Per the cancer thing, I was in Seattle many years ago having a smoke. I just started reading DU, I was a Libertarian at that time still, a LibertyForum.com addict. A bum (I thought) came up to me on the street and started warning me about specific leftist groups and indidivuals in Seattle, talked about how they were thugs planning overthrow, and how he had "iced" all these leftists, gave me names. He then went on this schizophrenic rant, mostly WWII and holocaust revisionism stuff, talking about how the communists and nazis were the same, etc. etc.

Out of curiosity I looked up the names he said, they had all died of pancreatic cancer. Leftists in the Seattle scene I had never heard of, against I wasn't a Dem at that time. I figured (because of his later mentally ill ranting) that it was just a bum who read about it and was using it to try to look badass, so I ignored it. But a few years later, the scary part was to come with Glenn Beck's show. He started advancing similar ideas as the bum said about how Communists and Nazis were the same (ignoring the communists in camps and the fall of Berlin by the red army), with a focus on George Soros (jewish financier, which Hitler hated) behind the 'nazi movement', etc. etc. It was mirroring the schizophrenic rant. In addition, Beck made regular references to the left as a "cancer", hosting the Cancer Treatment Centers of America on his show and whatnot. It was like a show based off this bum who claimed to be a murderer who used carcinogenic chemicals to kill. It was enough to make me think that bum really knew something.

Again, nobody knows, maybe the bum was twisting talking points he heard somewhere, but I couldn't ignore it - maybe Beck's talking points were derived from his, not the other way around. The question is who was he? The flavor of the rant, holocaust revisionism and the like, was uniquely neo-nazi. And say what you will about the moneyed New York Republican power base, but I don't think they are anti-semites. In fact some of them are Jewish. And technically speaking I was on the right at the time, but I had no idea about any of it. I got the picture of some kind of weird faction operating in shadows.

But that's just one thing from an ocean of things since 9/11. Its appeared like a lord of the files situation with covert forces, and largest picture I see is people operating out of what can only be total, in the dark, batshit confusion. People sending you messages, warnings. not for things you did, but for things they thought you did that were way, way off. Absolutely world of darkness, total lunacy. A world where Alice says "pie" on the phone with regards to what she wants for her b-day, with Bob covertly listening. Charlie is secretly watching them both, he bakes a pie and throws in Debras face, leaking the photos to Bob, who says "Aha I knew Alice was ordering these actions!" Layers upon recursive layers of that kind of shit.

It would be funny if not for the human cost. I remember riding the bus the home one day, seeing this pretty girl on the phone I knew from school. She was weeping and terrified, talking to her father. I picked up some bits:
"Now, its Bush they are just messing with us, trying scare us."
I knew the play, she was probably doing some feel good hippy activism when Bob got involved (and thus Charlie). Bob had picked up the probable signs of her "terrorist network" (thanks to Charlie) and was actively involved trying to disrupt it. Which is not to say that Bob and Charlie were involved with actual homeland security activities at all, because in a post 9/11 world organized crime quickly learned that the best way to get people to do illegal activities like breaking into people's houses and setting up recording devices was simply to TELL them they were part of black ops to get Al Qaeda, with the evidence convenient dropped in for them to find it. (I remember watching one activist neighbors house. One guy would drop stuff in her outdoor trash can, another guy would come by when she was out, dig through her trash and find it.) But whatever the reason, the end result was this girl weeping and terrified on the bus, unwilling to report the crimes she assumed came from the federal government because her phones had been hacked. Multiply this story times a million and you have the last ten years in America. OR at least that's how it looks to me.

Ultimately though, something this crazy simply cannot last. Something has to give, and lately it seems to have given. Things are moving more now towards trust and cooperation, people are seeing through all the bullshit and noise. I do have faith in this country getting it together and moving forward as a people again.

16. When Fascism came to America
it came draped in the flag and carrying a cross.

Speaking of Orwellian oppression, it was briefly mentioned in the news that OWS New York was partly broken up by the use of sound cannons. The military industrial complex have, since even before 9/11, been amassing the technologies to quell any uprising. The Fascist takeover of the USA didn't happen with a bang or a mighty crash, it happened in the dead of night and behind closed doors.

18. And it was a pathetic piece of shit all the same...
Aesthetics matter. Plato wrote about the connection between aesthetics and ethics, the beauty of the just and the ugliness of the wrong. Your words now project a scene before my eyes: fat fucks in button down shirts and ties meeting in a McMansion, plotting their horseshit suppression strategies. And it is a piece of shit, and anybody who clings to it claiming that it is just is married to shit, and they can feel it. And the righteousness of those who cling to just morals is beautiful, and those who do so can feel it as well.

Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice. (MLK) In practical terms this means the fat McMansion guys seeing their mortality, and thus they are drawn to a path more beautiful, less repugnant in the eyes of God than the one others around them have chosen. At the same time it means the consolidation of the path the righteous have chosen, the understanding that struggling for the poor and downcast is as holy today as it was back when Christ advocated it.

When FDR heard about what Hitler was doing, his cause was singular. His terminology? "We need to call this guy's bluff". Mr Roosevelt had it right: IT was a bluff, it was always a bluff, and the call of truth was that it would take to bring it down. Remember that, remember it always.

PEace, and Love, from
-NiR.
