Weekend, in which a woman with an autistic son tells of the extraordinary effect that a golden labrador had on her young son, beginning a wonderful transformation. It's just an excerpt of course.
The book is called, A Friend Like Henry, and is written by a Nuala Gardner; the publisher is Hodder & Stoughton and costs £14.99. Your local library might like to order it.
I don't have any financial interest in posting this, in case anyone thinks I'm on the make.

with their capabilities to break through seemingly insurmountable barriers in behavior.
My son, 23,( HS autism) feared ANY animal touching him for years. Then a stray kitty adopted us, taking his time to slowly approach my son.
By the end of one week, that sweet kitty was on his chest, while my son was laying on his bed. Apollo was purring, and my son was relaxed and calm.
Sadly, Apollo was killed in an accident but we will never ever forget him.
All my kitties ( we have two now) have benefited all of us, especially my son. They are important members of the family.
Thanks for sharing this. I'm going to get that book.
