i want to warn about Strattera.. it is a failed anti depressant, with a high suicidallity report, |
|
there are 12 year olds committing suicide on it, i was given it and experienced ....ahh.. hallucinated a world of death i couldn't escape, it still haunts me 3 years later, it was never properly tested.

1. Thanks for the warning, Sam. |

I was going to discuss changing my son's medication from Adderall to Strattera. I had heard it was " safer". Uh- it sure doesn't sound like it! ;(
This info has changed my mind.
I will steer clear of Strattera.

2. google: 'strattera failed antidepressant' ... there is a Norwegian study on one site that describe... |
|
a study done on it and it was approved, the study only had like 20 people and only maybe 6 finished it.. and it only got a positive on about 2% and the test lasted i think 4 months
it was actually never tested for ADHD.. they hired a Nigerian mathematician to tweak the results to approve it for something other than tested for.
i have a bunch of info, but it is down stairs, i just got out of hospital and am tooo medicated and in too much pain now.
i recommend trying to teach your child meditation, it is a simple method for training the mind... i would try a tibetan group, theravada... i dont think zen is appropriate, or nkt buddhism, or sgi
there are 'mindfulness meditation groups... essentially the buddhist meditation is most appropriate.
i taught meditation in juvenile prisons and got miraculous results
later.. got to rest

3. My Dr put me on Effexor once. I lasted a total of one day. |
|
My short term memory was reduced to about 10 minutes, and the entire day is almost a complete blur. I also became fairly extroverted, although I can't remember that part. Apparently I was a blast to be around :)

5. Wow-that's an eye opener! |

I'm getting some great information on meds from the members, here.
Ten minute short term memory?- Yikes!
No thanks!
Thanks so much for sharing this, Merwin.

6. It's also worth noting that I am in the extreme minority with that med. |
|
It's important to keep trying with them until you find the one that works best. Since we don't understand the brain very well, drugs aren't 100% effective on 100% of the people, and can sometimes do weird things to some people.
My doctor and I have been tweaking it for years now, and I'm on Zoloft now, which is working great for me for my anxiety/depression.
