More Security and Stability

IF YOU HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE, THE OBAMA PLAN:
  • Ends discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions.
  • Limits premium discrimination based on gender and age.
  • Prevents insurance companies from dropping coverage when people are sick and need it most.
  • Caps out-of-pocket expenses so people don’t go broke when they get sick.
  • Eliminates extra charges for preventive care like mammograms, flu shots and diabetes tests to improve health and save money.
  • Protects Medicare for seniors.
  • Eliminates the “donut-hole” gap in coverage for prescription drugs.

Quality, Affordable Choices

IF YOU DON’T HAVE INSURANCE, THE OBAMA PLAN:
  • Creates a new insurance marketplace — the Exchange — that allows people without insurance and small businesses to compare plans and buy insurance at competitive prices.
  • Provides new tax credits to help people buy insurance.
  • Provides small businesses tax credits and affordable options for covering employees.
  • Offers a public health insurance option to provide the uninsured and those who can’t find affordable coverage with a real choice.
  • Immediately offers new, low-cost coverage through a national “high risk” pool to protect people with preexisting conditions from financial ruin until the new Exchange is created.

Reins in the Cost of Health Care

FOR ALL AMERICANS, THE OBAMA PLAN:
  • Won’t add a dime to the deficit and is paid for upfront.
  • Requires additional cuts if savings are not realized.
  • Implements a number of delivery system reforms that begin to rein in health care costs and align incentives for hospitals, physicians, and others to improve quality.
  • Creates an independent commission of doctors and medical experts to identify waste, fraud and abuse in the health care system.
  • Orders immediate medical malpractice reform projects that could help doctors focus on putting their patients first, not on practicing defensive medicine.
  • Requires large employers to cover their employees and individuals who can afford it to buy insurance so everyone shares in the responsibility of reform.

1. As it says..it simply puts the facts out there
for everyone to see and so everyone, even me, can understand what the health care plan would be.

Now lets rip off our clothes and go running through the streets, pulling out our hair and screaming about what we fear will happen if this is put into effect. Geesh..

4. Nice
Thank you

I've heard a few Surgeons complaining about the bill (but not so much medical doctors--I work as a nurse) I find that interesting, because a top surgeon gets pain per surgery a salary, per lecture, as professors, as consultants on and on. Big, big bucks.

Most nurses I know just want people cared for properly. I work at a 'teaching' hospital. Between my work place and one other we take 80% of so-called 'charity' care. Strictly for profit hospitals manage to weasel out of caring for our less fortunate brothers and sisters. I can't begin to describe the tragedies of insurance problems. My field, Solid organ transplant, we see people actually run out of their live saving immunosupprssent drugs ending up in the hospital with rejection. This bill offers a hell of a lot of hope

12. My surgeon, who I thought at first was a nice guy,
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 11:19 PM by rebel with a cause
is very much against it. Someone who talked to him about it told me that he did not seem to think much of his patients, more about how this would affect his income. They told me he was an a**hole and I said I already knew it.

He liked me because I was low maintenance, good attitude and all, during my cancer surgery. But then when there were complications in my treatment and I had to make a difficult decision, he got angry at me and said if he had known this he would not have taken me on as a patient. I dislike him now more than I ever liked him, but I smile and interact with him positively hoping my cancer stays away. And if it doesn't stay away for good, at least long enough for me to get a new surgeon. Not that he is not a good, perhaps great, surgeon. I just don't want to have to depend on him for anything anymore.

Oh, he's a big repub!!!!!!!!!!!!!:puke:

If I had known that I might not have taken him on as a surgeon.

8. I hope I am eligible for insurance right away. I lost my coverage
three months ago. My husband is unemployed, so he doesn't have any either.

I hate the feeling of not having insurance; it's like walking a tightrope with no safety net underneath.

We just lost our health insurance, too. For the first time in my adult life, I have none. It's scary, as we're in our 50s.

13. If you have not already..
Check around for clinics that charge according to your income. Doing this in advance might allow you to find the most suitable one for you, in other words the best one.

That is how I finally got health care when I had no income. You have to be careful and not let them overcharge you, but most of these clinics know how to get some needed medications cheaper and organizations that will help with health care bills if you have to get hospitalization. I live in a small town and go to one in another town because that is where the doctor I want is at. If you live in a city there should be quite a few available. I know it is hard on the pride to do this, but sometimes we do what we have to.
