Ah Keith - here's why they sent up the balloon on the "budget freeze" |
|
I have no proof of course but I believe that the trial balloon on the budget freeze had absolutely nothing to do with domestic political considerations.
I believe that it was sent to the "creditors committee" that funds our government, i.e. Germany, Saudi Arabia, China and Japan. These four countries buy the lion share of treasury bonds and they are very deficit adverse.
I believe that in getting funding for the massive loans needed this year the administration was forced to agree to long term deficit reduction and including the initial step in the SOTU was needed to continue to get hundreds of billions from other countries.
Everyone assumes that there is only a domestic audience. When you are borrowing hundreds of billions of other peoples dollars it is necessary to accomodate their concerns as well.

4. It also exposed those who react against the administration without facts. |
|
Flushed them right out of the woodwork and when they were shown to be foolish, they could do nothing but STFU with their lost credibility.
