Call Pelosi: Tell Her To Reel Rahm In & Slap His Hands Off SS |
|
And, not to allow the telecoms to skate in the new FISA bill. It only takes a minute.

2. You might want to review the new FISA bill before you call to complain |

when they informed the leadership that they would fight immunity for the bill if the telecoms were allowed to skate. It was the reason Hoyer canceled his planned presser last week, he who is 2nd in the leadership and was prepared to give them a pass. There is still pressure from some to allow this to happen and we must continue to make the point by allowing our voices to be heard. Not every comment need be a complaint. But if enough call and say we want the telecom's feet held to the fire, that they can't spy on us with immunity and get away with it, it is a confirmation that they are now going in the right direction.

10. From the other thread: |
|
* No retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies that cooperated with the administration’s warrantless surveillance
Looks like it's covered.

and because dems are putting in things his majesty will object to, Greenwald suggests it may get vetoed. Therefore it's still very much on the drawing board and we have time to yelp our heads off.

8. Link to Social Security thread |
|
I did a search to find a current OP (which I had somehow missed) about Rahm Emanuel's Social Security sellout plan. Thought I could save others the trouble by sharing this link to it: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=1992157

18. I just read that whole thread and was left with this thought: |
|
If this scheme is not going to replace all or part of Social Security now or in the future, then why is it that it needs to be part of Social Security legislation? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to augment existing 401(k) measures and leave Social Security out of it if there is no underlying sinister intent? Try suggesting that to proponents of this 'grand bargain' and see how enthusiastic they are about the idea.

19. A Point To Consider, That There May Be Bait & Switch Going On Here |
|
You unsubtly know, having read the other thread, that SS is an insurance plan, yet in recent years they have been trying to sell it as a savings plan. The argument is that investing in a better savings plan, with a greater yield, will heap regards for the beneficiaries. Unless of course the plans go under. And naturally when such things happen, those at the top cash out, as with Countrywide, just before the entity hits bottom. This private savings business is propaganda, pure and simple, designed to benefit wall street at our expense.
Also, I have to say that anything that Rahm (corporatist supreme and ardent DLCer) tries to mess with sends out a huge warning signal.

And as I suppose you must be aware, all this propaganda is designed to convince people that the general fund should not/can not/must not pay off the treasury bonds that are held by the SS trust fund. What a retroactive coup that would be for the wealthy elite! It is this that the GOP really sees as the SS 'chrisis'. They are in mortal fear that the treasury fund bonds will come due, and will have to be paid by non-regressive tax dollars.
All else is well-funded bullshit.

Actually, the elites have a number of reasons to be afraid. I wonder if their dreams are haunted by the sound of pitchforks being sharpened.
