Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 05:59 PM by aaaaaa5a

Roland Martin is filling in for Campbell Brown at 8pm on CNN. However with CNN now in 3rd place among the cable news networks, could this be a job audition for Martin?

Campbell Brown gets wiped out in her 8pm time-slot by Bill O'Reilly at FOX. That could be expected. But she is also losing big to Countdown too. And MSNBC doesn't have the built in advantages that FOX has. No CNN show should be losing to MSNBC. CNN is on way to many cable outlets where MSNBC isn't even available.

I don't have any inside info. But I think Brown could be pushed out. I sense with the build up of Roland Martin as "guest host" that more could be in the works for Martin and the 8pm time slot at CNN.

I think especially with CNN's relative ratings trouble, they may be looking for a full time spot for Martin somewhere on the network.

1. I think that's the plan. I also think Roland Martin is an idiot,
so I won't even be tempted to glance over there during Keith's commercials. I think this is a huge mistake for CNN, but that's okay with me.

5. They're not seriously thinking of putting in a fisherman to host
a news show, are they?

I realize my former profession, journalism, has hit nearly rock bottom, but that's ridiculous!

6. Bass fishing shows? Are you kidding?
I like fishing but I can't think of any worse thing to watch on TV than watching people fish.

Maybe they're after the all important good ol boy bass feeshn demographic.

4. I hope not.
I am not a fan of Martin. I watch CNN more during the late morning and afternoon. If I am home to watch the primetime shows, I usually watch MSNBC.

7. I sure hope not. CNN is the only watchable cable news channel, in my opinion.

They're the only ones who don't put partisan blowhards on as hosts who deliver news through a filter. I like to think for myself, rather than have Olbermann, Hannity or any of the rest tell me what they think the news is.

Martin is bad enough as a guest, so giving him a show would be worse.

Here are the average viewers per night through last Weds (for March ratings)

MSNBC...1.16 million
CNN.......1.14 million

CNN is in third, but it's very close to MSNBC.

11. Have you seen the Lou Dobbs show?
I find it funny that CNN is suppose to be the "straight down the middle network." Yet they have the very partisan Lou Dobbs on at 7pm. There is not one Liberal leaning host to counteract Dobbs as the host of any CNN news show.

The point about the ratings isn't just that CNN lost to MSNBC for the month of March. It's the trend-lines. MSNBC is growing faster than CNN. And as I mentioned in the OP, MSNBC isn't as widely available as CNN, but they are still winning. That's bad news for CNN.

12. Yeah, and you're right -- he's horrible. I haven't seen him in about a year.

I put him in the same category as Olbermann and Hannity, etc., and I don't watch him.

I'd like to see more hard news, including in that hour, and have no conservative or liberal hosts at all.
