I was thinking about the fact that the poorest households

That pay Federal taxes might be now paying a "Few Dollars" per week more" (Under the new tax bill.)

If your business is liable to pay on earnings of 15K, US dollars, and you pay an additional $ 150 a year, that is a one percent tax hike.

Are the poor not supposed to get their panties in a knot over this?

We have just been told by the rich that they will be destroyed by a four percent tax hike - even though many of the rich also have their bonuses from our Bailouts flooding their coffers.

How is it that the poor can handle a one percent increase, but the rich cannot?

1. No voice. The poor for the most part are voiceless, but their ranks are growing. n/t

6. I had forgotten about that.
Shame on me. To think of how I don't realize their fondness for the poor!

5. And why is that?
Because "progressives", for the most part, aren't interested in speaking up on our behalf.

7. Yes the poor have always been treated like this
But as the so-called middle class (which can only exist when there is a poorer class, by definition) gets poorer and poorer the lines are getting blurred. Crunch time.

It's a painful wake-up call for some people. The American Dream never existed.

But the rich get richer and richer and...

and I agree with you. Many progressives talk about supporting legislation to help the middle-class - but what of the poor? The poor are seen as some inevitable powerless class to which they can be charitable without ever questioning why..

"When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist."

eta: I am not very articulate today for some reason. sorry...

8. You are correct
Remember the SCOTUS decided that money was a form of "Free Speech", and the rich have all the voices, while the poor and the middle class have little or no voice at all.

3. I've been in that tax bracket
with small children and I know that a cut of $5 a week meant that I was going to have to scrimp on a couple of meals.

9. Yep. There went that meat loaf you were going to have for Sunday dinner.
Grab another bag of beans instead. People who haven't been there just don't understand how devastating the loss of even a few dollars can be.

12. Even now
when I am somewhat better off--there are always two bags of beans in my cabinet. Without fail.
And no, they have no idea what a few extra dollars means.
I hocked my vacuum cleaner for $30 one time to buy groceries for a week. I was never able to get that vacuum back. I never had the extra money.

4. An honest media would publicise the facts.
But that we don't have.
