Has this been the first real filibuster of the 2009-2010 Senate? |
|
Because I can't remember the republicans ever having to stand up and actually filibuster. Anything. Or am I wrong?

One of their caucus simply "raises objection" and then leaves the building. Everything grinds to a halt, whether they're present to defend their objection or not.

6. On MSNBC they're saying it's not a real filibuster. |
|
I don't know why they're saying it's not real.

8. No. They have not threatened passage of the bill in any way. |

Reid can file for cloture whenever he chooses, and there are 60 votes.
As far as I know there is no bill on the floor to even block... This is just theatrics.

11. No, this is not a real filibuster, and there is no such thing as a real filibuster under the Senate |
|
Rules.
A real filibuster would be someone talking on end to PREVENT a bill from passing. But nothing Bernie is doing to prevent a bill from passing. The vote is on Monday, and if Bernie is still talking then, the presiding officer will cut him off in mid sentence.
In reality, if you have 60 votes, a bill passes. If you don't, it doesn't pass. No talking required.
