More than 1,200 at Edwards funeral; protest fizzles

Raleigh, North Carolina (CNN) - More than 1,200 mourners, including hundreds who loved and admired Elizabeth Edwards from a distance, packed a Raleigh church Saturday to pay respects to the activist and estranged wife of a failed aspirant to the presidency.

The mourners included Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, who in 2004 picked Edwards' husband, John, to be his vice presidential running mate in an unsuccessful bid for the White House. John and Elizabeth Edwards separated earlier this year after the former North Carolina senator admitted to fathering a child out of wedlock while the couple was married.

I'm so glad. I'm nowhere near aleigh but I was soo pi**ed off at those protesting Baptists and their disgusting activitiesd. CNN also said theChurch had obtained a protest permit & they were relegated to a site 2 blocks away from th church where Elizabeth's funeral was.

2. John Kerry is a class act.
It was comforting to see him at the funeral.

3. I love how he showed up, too.
One of the things that brought a smile to my face during the horribleness of yesterday was calling JK's Senate office, asking the staffer if he was going to EE's funeral, and the staffer saying yes.

6. JK refers to John Kerry
John Edwards was by Elibeth's side continuously when she came home from the hospital. And they had separated, but not divorced.

8. Elizabeth Edwards was the absolute antithesis
of Sarah Palin.

A class act all around. The world is a lesser place without her.
