Ds To Form Circular Firing Squad After All The Cats Have Been Herded
Edited on Sat Dec-11-10 07:45 PM by stopbush
It's what we seem to do best. It's the reason why the Rs have controlled the WH 20 out of the past 30 years.

Sad, because come Monday, Obama's tax compromise is going to pass, and all that the D naysayers will have to show for it is reel after reel of video footage featuring Ds bashing president Obama, footage that we'll be seeing in anti-Democratic ads for the next two years.

2. No, we should be smart about it.
Being smart about it would have meant getting behind Obama and laying the real blame for the odious parts of this compromise where it belongs - on the RW ideologues and the Dem Congress critters who cravenly avoided dealing with the bush tax cuts months or even years ago.

5. Exactly. But instead you get responses like the one above that shut down dialogue
Because they deliberately distort what you're trying to say.

6. So instead of bashing the the president
we should have bashed the republicans and the wayward democrats in the senate??

11. In other words, shut up and take it
How many times can Obama say "The Republicans are being mean to me, we need to do whatever they say" before we get sick and tired of the whole routine?

4. Try stop shooting, and start being constructive.
What Progressives Don’t Understand About Obama

Unlike white progressives, blacks and Latinos are not used to getting it all. They know how it feels to be unemployed and unable to buy your children Christmas presents. They know when not to shout. The president, the coolest man in the room, who worked among the unemployed in Chicago, knows too.

10. Did you read the article at the link?
Here:

What the progressives forget is that black intellectuals have been called “paranoid,” “bitter,” “rowdy,” “angry,” “bullies,” and accused of tirades and diatribes for more than 100 years. Very few of them would have been given a grade above D from most of my teachers.

When these progressives refer to themselves as Mr. Obama’s base, all they see is themselves. They ignore polls showing steadfast support for the president among blacks and Latinos. And now they are whispering about a primary challenge against the president. Brilliant! The kind of suicidal gesture that destroyed Jimmy Carter — and a way to lose the black vote forever.

9. What am I missing in understanding your post??
Blacks and Latinos know what it is not to get what they need so Obama thought he would shaft them again??
And the whites are not used to getting what they want so they get pissed??

24. Q: would you say that the Rs "caved to Obama" by agreeing to extend UI benefits for 13 months
without paying for them, as they had insisted?

I'm asking.

14. 18 years of 'compromise' has worked so well
The responsible adults in our Party have served us well:

- Our economy is strong
- Our middle class is vibrant
- We are at peace

Let's stay the course, folks. Let's keep doing what works.

21. Here is the deal with why I view it the way I do:
IF...this was the first time he had caved-okay, I get your point.
IF...this was the second time, eeeeh okay fine.

But EVERY single time he could have stood up and said "No." He did not. He decided that compromise is not what you achieve after working really hard to get everything you want, it is what you get the second you walk into the room.

Instead of saying "I want a single payer system..." He said "nope." So instead of getting at least the Medicare buy in (which is better than going for the single payer system right from the get go or a public option because it just requires a few modifications), we got a giant corporate giveaway.

Instead of demanding that we get DADT not only repealed but it should be considered against the law nationwide to discriminate anyone because of who they happen to love romantically plus let us repeal that anti-Constitutional DOMA...we got and still have nothing.

Instead of not only filing a suit against SB1070 we should have had a comprehensive plan that addresses not just OUR needs but the needs of the nations that keep having people run away from them...we have SB1070 and the DREAM Act continues to fall.

So why should I stand up for the President? He never stands up for anything he claims he believes in-even though I understand you have to govern the entire nation, he is only looking to one side, not both.

22. You've outlined "the deal," now, here's the problem with your deal.
Edited on Sat Dec-11-10 09:02 PM by stopbush
It has never worked for Ds to take an all or nothing stand. In fact, it doesn't really work much in politics.

Teddy took an all or nothing stand with Nixon on HCR, and we got bupkis for the next 40 years. Hillary tried a go-it-alone gambit on HCR, and we got bupkis for the next 20 years. And the two of them were continuing the record of getting bupkis on HCR that went back to Teddy Roosevelt.

Obama got HCR passed. Not perfect, but a beginning, a break in the log jam. Why? Because he did what was possible, rather than taking an all-or-nothing stand, a stand that worked SO well in the past.

DADT - Obama is the first president to come out and state that he wants this policy overturned, a policy that was put in place by a Democratic president, in case you've forgotten. Geez, Obama didn't get done in two years what no president would even TOUCH for 17 years. Bad Obama! B-a-a-d Obama!

The fact is - and it is a fact, my friend - that had Obama "stood up and said no every time he could have," he wouldn't have had the legislative victories he had in his first two years. Repeal of DADT wouldn't even be up for a vote in the Senate.
And THAT'S the real deal.
