THE GOVERNOR HAS PROPOSED DAMAGING CUTS TO MEDI-CAL AND TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION PROGRAMS!

The proposal to cut health care services by ten percent across-the-board will only escalate the implosion of California’s safety net clinics that provide care to millions of low income and uninsured clients. There is no doubt that these 10 percent cuts will force many California providers to refuse Medi-Cal patients, jeopardizing California’s public health infrastructure and compounding the crisis in our emergency rooms. Furthermore, the Governor’s budget proposes additional barriers and cuts to services for low-income woman in Medi-Cal.

Planned Parenthood clinics are already turning away 10,000 patients a month because we simply don’t have the capacity to meet the needs of our communities under the current reimbursement rate.

Legislators are considering the Governor’s proposals right now. They need to hear from you to understand the damaging impacts these cuts would have on patient's access to healthcare and Planned Parenthood services.

Students who receive comprehensive sex education are half as likely to become teen parents as those who get none or abstinence-only sex education, according to researchers at the University of Washington.

What's more, teens who had comprehensive education, which typically discusses condoms and birth-control methods as well as abstinence, were no more likely to engage in intercourse than peers who were taught just to say no to sex before marriage, researchers said.

The study is the first time researchers have taken a national sampling of teenagers to compare the effectiveness of the two approaches to sex education. And it echoes other studies that have previously suggested that the federal government's decade long promotion of an abstinence-only curriculum isn't deterring young people from having sex."

Part of pregnancy prevention and sex education is access to informed choice about birth control, as well as being able to afford it.

Those assholes could care less about a fetus. They could care less about the poor. They could care less about children. I hate them. I don't hate much, but I hate those sanctimonious forced-birth bullshitters that not only doesn't respect or santify life-- no matter what their rhetoric-- but are actively anti-life in every sense of the word. Fuckers.

(nice rant;))...and I totally agree. It's hard not to hate such hypocritical control freaks. Isn't that what it really comes down to? Their need to control others, particularly women?

If they just kept it to their own kids, that would be one thing, but the fact that they insist the children of the world live by their standards. Who are they to decide?
