Did I pass up something good? |
|
Stopped by a used goods store on Saturday. This place turns things over very fast and very cheap. They get whole estates and whole garage sale ends and just process stuff as fast as they can.
In one corner of housewares was a bunch of jadeite. Mixing bowls, a pitcher, etc. I don't know the genre real well -- don't know the restaurant ware from the other stuff, don't know about reproductions, etc. The two pieces I considered buying were round platters, about 16 inches or maybe 18 inches. They were marked at $8 each. It was probably a pretty good deal, but I was en route walking to the organic grocer and didn't really want to carry these fairly heavy platters.
Now I'm kicking myself, of course. I would have liked them for myself.

1. I once bought a jadite butter dish from a thrift store for a couple of |

bucks, after researching, I found that it was a reproduction and that there is a lot of it out there. If you look on jadite sites it also looks like $8.00 is a common price for a plate, so don't lose any sleep over it. Personally, I don't buy jadite only because I have so little experience with it that I can't tell real from fake.

I suspected that the mixing bowls were repros. There was just something about the color...
