What is going on in the US is just so depressing |
|
I might have to stay off DU for awhile. It's really making me upset. My only hope is that America heeds Joe's advice, "when you are knocked down, get back up, get UP!" October is going to be a long month. :(
Sorry to be a downer. :grouphug:

It really is very depressing. Even though I saw this coming for a long time, it still is overwhelming. No matter the outcome of the election, this country will be in bad shape for many years to come. Our chances will be better with Democratic rule, but so many needed changes will have to be put on hold because of the financial disaster this administration has created.
I don't envy Obama and Biden, but if anyone can turn this mess around, it will be them.

6. I saw this coming in the real estate sector for years now |
|
I would say since 2005. The bubble was burbling then. I think the worst has not yet begun to hit the fan, credit card industry is next, and then the student loan sector is not far behind. Just a hunch.
On a positive note, an old client called me today and I have a short, juicy project. :D With more to follow. I've tied a knot for the time being and am hanging on for dear life.

2. What drives me to despair more than anything, is that we've seen this happen |

repeatedly, and we never learn. The American people don't pay attention and even when we do, we're ignored by Congress. (Not to mention, during this administration, the Executive Branch is ignoring Congress, too -- and the Judiciary toeing the administration's line.)
I have to agree with Bloomberg, that when things were going well, we didn't want to rock the boat. But it took things not going well for the financial sector to get any attention. Things haven't been going well for We The People for several years.
I think already, a majority of Americans are breathing a sigh of relief thinking that this bailout means we've averted a disaster, and that it will turn things around and we'll get our old America back. They're not ready to do what it takes -- to fight -- and they're not even cognizant of the fact that's what it's going to take.
I'm guessing we'll still see you around -- you care too much. But if I'm wrong, we'll see you when you're ready. And we totally understand.

7. I have to admit, the American govt is pretty |
|
damn stupid when it comes to managing its affairs. Deutschland is more cautious, but they seem to have their heads screwed on straight. ALTHOUGH I heard to day the the 350million euros someone wired from KfW (commercial bank) to Lehman Bros. was evidently NOT an accident as earlier thought. I haven't heard the reason for it yet. Now that is stupid!!! Yeah, let's wire millions of taxpayer money to a bank that is teetering on the edge of insolvency. :eyes:

3. With the way things are going in the US, we are all moving in with YOU. |

Especially if things don't go our way in November.
Don't stay away too long - we'll need your address

5. Well you could get dual citizenship |
|
Have you ever considered that? Or do you already have it?
I am exploring it now.

8. I never really considered relinquishing my citizenship until a DUer wrote |

a thread with warnings about what could result (basically threats from the US government making it sound so dire to obviously deter a potential tax payer from moving elsewhere and paying tax to a different country :eyes:).
I was just thinking about living in another country - hadn't even thought about the logistics/specifics, since I'm not sure I'd be able to even do it.
The other day on Randi's show a caller said "I'll go to Canada if McCain wins". Randi said - they won't take you, I've looked into it. :scared: If a large number of people want to go elsewhere, we'll become -- and be be treated like -- refugees.

9. Nope: Both parents are American. |
|
I was born off-base in a German hospital; that's how I got the German birth certificate. I'd have to have one German parent to be able to qualify for dual.
*heavy sigh*
