Just saying "Hi"!
I know we don't come here as often as we used to and I really don't have anything of significance to say - just touching base!

Still hoping Gateley drops by one of these days.

1. Hi back
:hi:

I still check in a lot. Life's gone nutty the last month and a half though.

2. Same here
There is so much uncertainty in the air these days and it seems to be affecting most people. I'm just trying to take things one day at a time.

I check in daily, I just don't have much to say. Political burnout I'm afraid.

3. Yeah, I kinda wish I had saved some energy
for paying attention to all the policy-making going on now - actually more interesting to me than the politics. But I have to focus on some projects for work that are due, and I had to move at one of my offices on short notice, and my car is having problems so I need to go car-free or replace it. So, I'm with you, one day at a time is about the most I can handle!

4. Hi backatcha!!
:hi:

I still lurk mostly....I am still around and feel like one of the few optimistic people around here sometimes. I'm not talking about this group, but DU in general. I get sort of frustrated when I try to post something positive and basically get told that the sky is falling and I need to get on board.
I have always been more of an observor...trying to learn, not much of a philosopher who likes to tell others how to live. So I read mostly.....and frequently.

I hope everyone is doing alright and I certainly don't want to demean anyone who is having a tougher than normal time.....

I know times are tough.....but I have a good feeling about the future......contrasting the feeling I had the last few years.

So let me live in my fantasy!!!....:bounce:

5. I have mixed feelings about the future
but I think ultimately things will improve.

I guess people are so conditioned to being angry and suspicious after the last eight years, it is hard to break the habit.

As for myself, I am really tired of being angry and would prefer to live in your "fantasy". The economy is scaring the crap out me though.

6. I don't want to give an illusion..
I have no doubt it's going to get worse first.......

I'm looking out much further.

And the last eight years???....yes that has emphasized it. But I have been angry and suspicious for more like 28 years.....since Reagan. I have said right up front that I didn't care for Obama, but he has changed my mind. While so many disparage him, my faith in him has grown. I will watch with a suspicious eye though.

You know something......how would you know what light was if you never had darkness??

How would you not know the simplest joys....if you never knew misery??

We have many joys to look forward to......sometimes the small ones are the best...

8. The whole Reagan Mystique
baffles me. I remember the Reagan years and they really sucked. I wasn't terribly political at the time as I was so poor. I was just trying to survive raising two children on my own. Didn't even have a TV for a while, so "current events" consisted of trying to keep a roof over our heads and food on my family.

I think things will get better too, but at this stage in my life, I'm not sure it will be part of my future. Meanwhile, I'm very happy I'm able to witness this fascinating chapter in history.

10. The Reagan thing is something I will never get, I was a kid then but were things really all that
great then? Reagan's policies set into motion so many problems that we have today.

11. Some people did very well in the eighties,
but many more fell between the cracks. I remember many stories of homelessness and the job market was pretty pathetic. I can't believe that Reagan is a god to the right wing.

7. Greetings and salutations,
Pat. There is great uncertainty nowadays, isn't there. Whether we can all tread water until the storm surge subsides; or, whether the sea change is here to stay and we'll all have to bud gills and learn to breathe under water. You know I'm not much of a poster in any event. I don't generally have a lot to say. I'm pretty much the introverted hermit monk. But I watch and listen, and hope to respond appropriately to changes in my environment. Adapt. The key to survival.

Blessings.

9. Oh I think you say a lot
with very few words, which is very rare when it comes to politics. Of course, I don't know many politically inclined monks (just one actually).

I think adaptation comes easier to people like me, as I've been through hard times most of my adult life. Treading water comes naturally to me.

13. I find I don't need an egg timer so much anymore.
;)

I've got some stuff going on right now & so it's easy to visit here for just a few mintues at a time - not hours at a time! Also, the level of discussion - does anyone use search before they start the 43nd thread on some mindless topic? Arghh!

I set up a facebook & twitter account & I've never been back to either one! ;)

BTW, does someone have that link where you can stream cable TV shows like Rachel Maddow? I thought I bookmarked it, but I can't find it.

I wish Gateley would check in, too.
