Biden visited elementary school today:

Vice president Joe Biden visits the Syracuse streets he once called home
by Sean Kirst / The Post-Standard
Sunday May 10, 2009, 3:44 PM

Vice President Joseph Biden followed his commencement speech Sunday at Syracuse University with two emotional stops in the Syracuse neighborhood where he lived more than 40 years ago.

He took questions from more than 100 children gathered inside Bellevue Elementary School, whose pupils had written him letters, asking him to visit.

Biden's motorcade then traveled to 608 Stinard Ave., where Biden lived in the late 1960s. The vice president climbed out of the car, mingled with the crowd, and took a long look - on Mother's Day - at the duplex he called home as a newlywed.

1. I hope Jill is OK with all this reminiscing.
My brother and I avoided mention of our 'birth' mother to our adopted mother, concerned that she might not be happy with it (and it would bring back memories for Dad.)

2. I wonder too. I'm pretty sure she didn't come to Syracuse today

I think they would have pointed her out at commencement or let her sit up on stage or something - or at least there would have been more SS agents.

On edit - Joe didn't mention Beau today despite Beau being a Syr. law grad too - maybe that was too painful too.

5. I just realized - Jill and Barack each lost their mother last year
This must have been a tough weekend for them. I think Joe made it home to his mom before the end of the day. I wonder if Secret Service stays in his house? :)

6. Mutt, I'd NEVER remember those dates.
Sec Serv prolly guards tne Del neighborhood/house; don't stay IN the house. In DC, dunno. Do they stay IN White House?
