Gay Republicans seething at Perry
Gay Republicans seething at Perry
By Josh Lederman - 12/09/11 06:00 AM ET

Gay Republican groups are fuming at Rick Perry over a pair of incidents they say reflect deep-seated hostility toward gay and lesbian Americans and disrespect for those who serve in the military.

Perry supporters maintain that the controversial television ad and press statement are consistent with Perry’s own deeply held beliefs. But they also acknowledge the underlying political calculation behind what gay groups claim is a cynical late-game ploy to sway evangelicals and social conservatives in Iowa ahead of the Jan. 3 caucuses.

“They certainly are showing desperation. We’re seeing the end times of the Perry campaign,” said Jimmy LaSalvia, co-founder of GOProud, a group representing gay Republicans. “This is a strategy that plays to a very, very small minority — playing to the cheap seats is what it is.”

snip//

The head of Log Cabin Republicans, another major group of gay conservatives, blasted the ad, calling out Perry for drawing a false dichotomy between being religious and supporting equality in the military.

Meanwhile, Perry critics pointed out that barely 700 viewers had “liked” the video on YouTube, but almost 25,000 viewers had “disliked” it.

1. Idiot Log Cabinoids
They writhe around with snakes and wonder why they consistently get bitten.

You can always tell a conservative -- but you can't tell them much.

8. Gay Republicans Deserve the Treatment They Get from the GOP
if they continue to align themselves with a party that holds such obvious disdain for them. Their feigned concern for fiscal conservatism is a hoax given the record of republicans on that issue.

republicans?

15. That's one of the weirdest "unsolved mysteries" out there today?
They must be getting SOMETHING out of it, right? Right? Either that or they REALLY hate themselves and need to pathologically stick with a group of people whom despise them. It's almost like they feel like they NEED to be punished, maybe????

17. They must be into BDSM.
In their case, it would be being forced to wear brown shoes with their three-piece charcoal grey pinstripe suit.

22. Just a theory
It's hard to imagine thinking like a Republican to start with, and the "Chickens for Col. Sanders" faction is even weirder.

Perhaps this is a group that doesn't want gay marriage to be legal because it gives them and excuse to avoid loving commitments - it's just about sex and the closet is just fine.

When you look at the behavior of many male, heterosexual Republicans that are into their 3rd or 4th trophy wife, you see that they're not really into loving commitments either.

18. The only thing I can think of is
They are economic conservatives. So if they came to the Democratic party, they would move it to the right on economic issues to the extent of their influence.

But that still makes more sense to me than actually allying with people who also want you to have no rights or in fact be arrested for your personal life.

4. Quick update -- as of now
there have been 2,711,916 views, 9920 likes, and 415,938 dislikes. Think they'll get the message that their message wasn't very well received?

Prob'ly not. That should have been enough reaction to slap the stooput clean off Perry's face, but it looks as if it's there to stay. As they say,

"Beauty's only skin deep they say,
And ugly's to the bone.
Beauty always fades away,
But ugly holds its own."

That ad was ugly-out-walkin'.

28. That is true.
But I get that some people are stupid and/or greedy, and that is why they are Repubs. But to join a party that is open about actively loathing you ... wow.

as long as their tax cuts are protected, and the social programs we've all come to depend on are under attack, LCR can kiss my behind. It makes about as much sense to me to be a gay Republican as it does to be a black or latino Republican. :eyes:

Edited on Sat Dec-10-11 11:20 AM by mwb970
It is, or is based heavily on, "Appalachian Spring" by American composer Aaron Copland. Copland, of course, was a gay, leftist Jew.

Aw! They're all pissed off that a Republican candidate is saying just what most Republicans think of them!

How fucking tragic.
