Locked? Really?

While I mentioned DUers in the title, I didn't single anyone out. Additionally, I tried to keep making my point in a manner that would provoke discussion on recidivism. I normally don't have a problem with threads getting locked but these seems like an overreach. The whole Vick issue is emotional and I thought I was making a valid argument regarding recidivism. It seems a good discussion about an emotional issue got shut down and for the first time I am really angry about it.

It will probably be too late to unlock this one but it needs to be considered.

We believe the only way this board can continue to thrive, while permitting a wide range of viewpints.

I think you probably could have figured out a way to discuss the topic without calling out other members.

I am trying to figure out is OK for folks to throw anything they want at Obama, but those of us who defend him are supposed to show restraint? I may be over reaction but that is how I feel.

The purpose of that thread is to paint other DUers in a negative light. As I said in my previous post:: We are really trying to send the message: Discuss issues not DUers.

I think you are missing the point. Obama is a public figure, his critics here on DU are not. So the comparison you are offering is not apples to apples. Here's a more appropriate comparison:

"DUers who criticize President Obama are not supposed to criticize DUers who support President Obama. And DUers who support President Obama are not supposed to criticize people who criticize President Obama. All DUers are welcome to discuss politics, issues, current events, and public figures."
