Copyright ownership of posts? |

Who owns the copyright to DU posts? I assume that it's DU, unless material is cited from elsewhere under fair use.
Thanks,
Manny

1. Strictly speaking, I think it's DU. |

But we have never given away content posted by any of our members without their explicit consent, and we have no intention of ever changing that policy.
We also welcome members to post or publish their content elsewhere, however they like.

I'm writing something up that I'd like to post on DU, but I may want to publish elsewhere. I sometimes write for publication, and I know that once my material is published and the publisher claims copyright, I lose control over what I've written. Based on your response, do I understand correctly that I do not lose control of my work?
BTW, thanks for all that you've done with DU. While there are some hard words passed sometimes, and I do miss many of those who've received the banhammer, it's fantastic that this place exists. I do believe that, in the end, all will be better for some of the trials and tribulations. I think it's like free speech - it totally sucks when the Nazis march in Skokie, but in the end we're all the better for it.

3. You do not lose control of your work. |

However, you should probably make sure that the OTHER publisher would still be willing to publish something that has already been posted here.
