Why is a General Discussion of Gun Laws disallowed in light of Giffords |
|
shooting on 1/8/11. Please explain how this doesn't belong in a general forum when in response to this event?

1. We do occasionally permit such discussions. |
|
But honestly, the reason we limit them in GD is because most people don't want DU to be taken over by hard-core partisans endlessly arguing over guns.

2. I get that. However... |

This is a critical time to, once again, have this discussion, I believe. I posted this thread on Sunday, and it was moved very quickly to Guns. I was a bit surprised. In the last day or so, more of the mainstream media has been bringing this topic up. I would hope we would be able to renew this discussion within a larger group while such pertinent events are taking place. Thanks.

3. I just talked to the moderators, and my understanding is that... |
|
...they are dealing with these on a case-by-case basis.
If a gun-related post is relevant to current events, then it should probably stay in GD -- especially if the post shows some substance or effort, and if it has the potential to lead to half-decent discussion. If it's just a stale or inflammatory rehash of the same arguments from the Guns forum, then it should probably be moved.
