Question asked by oneshooter
I realized that my previous post would be considered a "call out" of a DU member.
My question is this: Is the deliberate misquoting of another members post allowed in DU? Is this deception permitted? I alerted the mods when it happened and since nothing was done I am led to believe that it is.

I have thought highly of the members of DU. All have been, to this point well mannered if somewhat rude at times. This can be expected as passions can run a little high, and fingers sometimes have a mind of their own when this happens. This is not, I hope, a call out. Just a question.

1. Deliberate misquoting is not appropriate.
Having said that, I think in the context of political discussions, it is fairly common to paint others positions in an unfavorable light.

So, I guess it depends where on that continuum a post exists.

2.  Not "appropriate" but still allowed?
He deliberately "lied" and changed the entire meaning of what was posted. I guess I am pretty simple minded but I for one do not enjoy a lie told about me.

But I guess it is allowed on DU.

Evidence was given before of this deliberate act. I believe that DU will be the looser, as one leads to another.

My apologies for disturbing you on this matter.

3. My advice is to alert when that happens.
The moderators will decide whether something crosses the line.

4.  I did alert , twice. Including showing both posts.
Nothing was done. So I figured that lying about another's post was acceptable behavior on DU.

Can you hardly blame me for being upset? I thought that DU was above such behavior.
