Increasing clarity without spamming |

Suppose that I alert on one of my own threads and request that it be locked on the grounds that, as written, it isn't clear enough.
Under what circumstances would it be locked, and under what circumstances would it be inappropriate for Moderators to lock the thread?
If it is locked then, after it is locked, would it be acceptable for me to post one new thread that is a revised version of the locked thread?
Please note there are two questions in this message, and neither is rhetorical.

1. I'm not sure this response is going to be very satisfying. |

If you alert and ask for a thread to be locked, the moderators have the authority to decide whether or not to lock it. They do not have any specific guidelines.
As for re-posting, my advice is: Be up-front with the moderators, and also be mindful of how they might see your action. If you alert and tell them "Please lock this so I can re-post a clearer version" then they will know what you have in mind.
