I've watched the first two, and while there's plenty wrong with it (the topic of Horus/Jesus right at the start is simplistic at best, among many other problems), this running from it like it's the plague is beneath you guys. Be honest, which of you guys have really even watched it? Your whole rationale in banning this topic seems to stem from the German site banning it. Am I wrong on this, or have any of you actually watched it? Again, be honest here.
I know, I know, it's anti-semitic (yet my Jewish counselor is the one who lent me the first DVD...he's one of those self-loathing Jews I guess). This angle was discussed at length (I stayed for 90 minutes on our first discussion on it, well into his lunch hour on this one, and it's a topic that we've revisited many times since....enough so that I feel I'm helping him more than the other way around lol).
There's many problems in the movie, ones I'd be happy to discuss if you'd have the courage to let us do so (like I did with my counselor...awesome exchange between two people who can handle differing views). Much in the movie is simplified, much is played for emotion (kind of like Fox News or Rachel Maddow, who all play the certain chords we want to hear). There's also some things in it that deserve some discussion among adults (our suicidal way of life that is ingrained being just one of them). We're not children, yet in this regard you treat us as such. There's far crazier things (imo) said daily in the 9/11 Forum (some of which have a firmer base in anti-semitism than anything in the movie Zeitgeist). These are allowed daily. This movie seems to scare the shit out of you guys in a way that all the talk of MIHOP and LIHOP never do. You allow that, but this movie sends you all running for the hills like little babes in a mother's arms. It's intellectually sad, there's no other way to put it. I'm sure that offends you, but at least I'm not treating you like a kid needing someone to decide what they can talk about, right? Yes, a German liberal site has banned all talk of it. But if that's going to be our standard than there's a shitload of things we shouldn't be discussing here.
You want DUers to grow up and stop acting like children, but then tell us what we can and cannot discuss like a parent talking to children. Overall, this isn't a movie I agree with very much, but watching you guys flee from it is bewildering for a liberal site that prides itself on open-mindedness and liberal thinking. The reasons given so far have been weak in the extreme, and cowardly at the worst.
Yeah, I know this will go over like a lead balloon, and I fully expect a dismissive reply telling me I'm welcome to discuss this elsewhere. ATA can't be fun for you, and I'd be tempted to just TS anyone even questioning my authoritah, but running from this movie is the type of thing FR would do. We're so afraid of any negative connotations that even discussing the movie is forbidden! Can you honestly not see how that goes against everything we stand for as liberals? If the movie is what you say it is, then let us say so! We're adults, let us discuss the merits (or lack thereof) of a MOVIE (I feel the need to emphasize that part of the description). Sticking one's head in the sand and pretending it doesn't even exist is exactly the type of thing we mock Republicans for doing, yet here we are, doing the EXACT same thing. Double standards suck, whether from our side or theirs. If we're really better than they are, then a little discussion of an obscure movie won't kill us, even if some feel it's an ugly movie. Hell, I could start a thread on the movie A Serbian Film, something far more offensive than anything mentioned in Zeitgeist, and that would be totally allowed. Being afraid of ideas, and subsequently hiding from them, is a Republican trait, not a liberal one.
