Soap Box lacks gravitas and has kind of a fringe/not well informed image. It brings forth the image of someone who is just spouting off.

"Town Square" I think reflects more accurately what you are trying to do with this particular forum and it also harkens back to the revolutionary beginings of the country as well as exercising free speech.

Town Square also feels both more 'democratic' and 'underground' while 'soap box' sounds more like some guy started drinking too early in the morning and thinks he is the latest Lewis Black but sounds more like Professor Irwin Corey (remember him?)
