Why are posters allowed to have their threads locked like this? It seems to me that a few posters repeatedly use this gambit to make contentious or inflammatory statements, take a few shots at the earliest responders, and then lock it all down before they can be brought to rhetorical task or have their nonsense refuted.

It's passive aggression of the most transparent sort, and aggravating as hell. And starting a new thread in response would be a call-out.

...because we feel like it's the friendly thing to do.

And in many cases, the OP is crap anyway. So it's nice to have an excuse to shut it down.
