Right-wing billionaire Phil Anschutz's Anti-Union Pro-Charter "Won't Back Down" flops at box office
A film that does $1000 per theater makes about $10-12 mil at the box office in its opening weekend. So, assuming for costs, this thing should probably cost them a few million in losses since it won't see $10 million in its box-office run.

Friday Box Office Rank 8
WON'T BACK DOWN
Fox

2,515 screens $921,000

-- / $366 theater average
$921,000 / 1 Day Total

See story about Rhee's StudentsFirst group writing astroturf (fake) reviews of the film:

About Phil Anschutz (from boldprogressives)

He’s Anti-Gay:Anschutz spent $10,000 in 1992 to promote Colorado’s Proposition 2, which let private property owners discriminate against gays and lesbians. He also gave $150,000 to the Mission America Foundation, which condemns homosexuality as “deviance.”
He’s Anti-Science: In 2003, Anschutz’s foundation gave $70,000 to the Discovery Institute, which attacks evolutionary theory and proclaims that “Darwinism is false.”
He’s Anti-Union: His foundation has donated at least $210,000 to the National Right To Work Legal Defense Foundation, which works to undermine labor rights.
He Owns Some Of The Most Influential Right-Wing Media Outlets: Anschutz owns both The Washington Examiner and The Weekly Standard, two of the most prominent right-wing tabloids and magazines that regularly demonize progressives and their beliefs.

1. The wiki of Walden, the entity that financed this film, was my first clue
that Anschutz was a "family values" guy.

The wiki no doubt gets "scrubbed" regularly, but it was still obvious.

That is why I have difficulty believing Maggie G's story.

I think a lot of good can come from this.

I think directors and actors may think twice before signing up for a RW politico-cultural propaganda piece. I, for one, will not be going to another Maggie G film, ever. I posted that even before her recent claim that she would never make an anti-union movie. (Still doesn't seem to get that she also made an anti-kid movie, which is ironic, given how it was all "for the kids," per the script.)

I think much light/awareness has fallen on the subject.

I think the controversy has been a great platform for the anti-privatization and/or pro-teachers groups to spread their message more effectively, if they seize the moment.

We've heard too much from the privateers for too long and not enough from populists. Those of us who consider ourselves populists need to find more ways to step up.

2. Glad to hear another right wing propaganda
movie is going to be unsuccessful. You think they would have leaned after Atlas Shrugged and 2016. They have money to burn, obviously.
