Barack Obama has the constitutional opportunity to fulfill his destiny.

After all, he was a constitutional scholar before he was a politician. Many of his supporters always expected him to adhere to the Constitution in which he was so well-schooled. That is why many supported his decision to send the Syria "question" to the Congress because it is the way our Constitution meant for questions of war to be handled.

The War Powers Act had done nothing but give our Presidents excuses to use our military in whatever way they saw fit, even for personal or political reasons, as with the capture of Noriega and going to war with Saddam Hussein. Remember, "He tried to kill my Daddy"?

We have been at war constantly and will continue to be at war constantly so long as the President, whichever Party, can declare on his own when to send troops into battle. Before, it had always been the responsibility of our Congress and should return to the way our founders intended.

This is the destiny of Barack Obama. He can once again return our government and our military back to its constitutional foundation. That would be quite a legacy. And that is what his life has been about up 'til now.

But, he is being pulled away from his conscience and his destiny and toward the siren song of the war mongers. Will he listen to his conscience? Will he follow our Constitution? Will he engage our allies before he unilaterally involves us in another war? The President is at a crossroads. He will choose the path of his destiny or he will continue to lead our nation down the road to ruin....

However, I am not sure that is important. IMO, the Supreme Court Justices do qualify as Constitutional scholars and they come down 5-4 on many issues. One may as well flip a coin, or so it would seem.

Obama is not a constitutional scholar. However he is a lawyer, he has many legal advisors, and he took an oath to uphold the Constitution. Close enough for government work, as they say.

I have no idea what his conscience tell him.

I have no idea what his destiny is. I don't even know what my destiny is. But, I know what I believe about this situation. I could be wrong, of course, but my beliefs are sincerely held.

I believe that the War Powers Act is unconstitutional. Obama does not.

However, I do believe that he will bomb Syria.

I believe Congress will give Obama the vote he wants. I believe that he knew that before he said he would ask Congress for the vote.

So far, I have heard Kerry say that we have evidence that Sarin was used. I have not heard him claim that we have evidence that it was Assad who used them, not the rebels, not the Saudis, not the Israelis, not the USG, not someone hoping to profit monetarily from getting the US involved in the war, etc.

I believe that, of all the possiblilities, Assad is the least likely to have used them. Obama said a year ago that use of chemical weapons by Assad would cause the US to enter the fray against Assad. (He left himself wiggle room, as he usually does, but still.)

Assad has been doing pretty well against the rebels recently. Why on earth would cross the "red line," thereby inviting the US to enter the fray against him and his troops?

Second, even if it was Assad who used them, how the hell do we send a message to Assad by bombing Syrian people?

And how is that more humanitarian than not bombing Syrian people?



IMO, this is unforgivable. And, despite what Kerry keeps saying, very like the run up to our invasion of Iraq.

Seems like everyone wants to give more terrorists more reasons to think they have a right to attack us.

3. I don't believe Assad

launched the chemical attack. Like you say, it just doesn't make a lot of sense. When I watch the effort by Kerry to convince us that we must make a strike I have to question their motives. Why such urgency? Something is afoot. I suspect they are up to no good once again.

The siren song of the war mongers is powerful music indeed. It seems to override every other concern. We watched it capture the entire media during the run up to the Iraq absurdity. I agree that it is a road to ruin.

5. We're seeing it again.

Someone on MSNBC this morning said that maybe Obama should ask Bubba, dubbed "the Secretary of Explaining Stuff" to rally the country for war. Er, I mean non-war. (Please forgive me. I've spent a lifetime thinking bombing a country is an act of war and I am having trouble remembering it's not war unless a boot is on the ground.)

Anyway, they seemed to want Bubba to sell the non war to Americans.

I meant to say that I wasn't sure if Obama qualified as a Constitutional scholar but I didn't know if that was important. I left out the bit about his being a scholar!
