It's got to really gall Elon, that he wasted so much money in Wisconsin.

The worst thing that could happen to his fragile ego? That he falls to the level of 'second' or 'third' Richest Man in the World! If Tesla sales pulls him down to that, you won't see any more of his manic 3 inch vertical leaps on stage.

Eli Wiesel reminds us why we must not stop screaming against injustice

"One day a just man—young, vibrant, dynamic—decided that he must save the city of Sodom, the epitome of sin and deceit. So he began going from street to street, from marketplace to marketplace. “Men and women,” he said, “do not steal. Men and women, do not lie, do not sin.”

In the beginning people stopped to listen because he was amusing. After all, how many just men came to Sodom? But after a while he repeated himself so much that they stopped listening.

After many years, he was so old that he could hardly walk, yet he was walking every morning, going from street to street, from marketplace to marketplace, and saying, “People, you are destroying yourselves. Repent. Remember God.”

Nobody listened. Then one little child stopped the man and said, “Poor stranger, poor teacher, why do you do all that? Don’t you see that it’s useless?”

“Yes,” said the old man.

“Then why do you continue?”

And the old teacher said, “I will tell you why, my son. In the beginning when I came here, I was convinced that I would manage to change them. Now I know I will never change them. But if I continue and I shout louder and louder and I scream more and more, it is because I don’t want them to change me.”

When Drunks, Felons and Rapists control the histories of our heroes

The Medal of Honor Recipient Erased in the Pentagon's DEI Purge
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the U.S. military to remove diversity-related content in accordance with President Donald Trump's executive order to end diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs across the federal government. Hegseth's order reportedly gave the Pentagon a deadline of Wednesday, March 5, to complete the task, but it looks as though the hasty effort had the unwanted side effect of erasing some of America's greatest heroes -- including at least one Medal of Honor recipient from World War II.

Gonsalves was a forward observer for the battalion, directing fire toward the enemy's mountain stronghold on the Motobu Peninsula, amid a hail of rifle fire, grenades and mortars. As the Marines advanced, the batteries needed to move closer to the front line to provide deadlier, more accurate artillery fire. Along with another Marine, he followed one of his officers up a hill to lay down telephone lines so they could communicate with Marines farther back.
As the group approached the front, a Japanese grenade landed in their midst. Without hesitation or reservation, Gonsalves threw himself on it. He absorbed the full blast and fragmentation, saving his comrades who all emerged unharmed.
For his actions to protect his fellow Marines, President Harry S. Truman awarded him a posthumous Medal of Honor, which was presented to his family in San Francisco on June 19, 1946.

B.C. has pulled red state liquor from the shelves in response to Trump's tariff

Eby launched a series of measures responding to the tariffs coming Tuesday, including directing the BC Liquor Distribution Branch to immediately stop buying American liquor from "red states," as well as directing Crown corporations to stop buying American goods and services.

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch sent a letter to all industry associations on Feb. 1, saying they support the provincial and federal government decisions and actions in response to the tariffs.

The Branch said in a statement that effective immediately, it has halted the generation of import purchase orders of U.S.-made liquor products manufactured in Republican states.
It said on-hand inventory of the top five selling brands, specifically their products manufactured in the U.S. states under Republican leadership, will be put on hold and unavailable for customers, these products include brands of Jack Daniels, Bacardi Rum, Titos Vodka, Jim Beam and Bulleit Bourbon.

Now, THAT'S sending a message! Make Republican Senators, Congressional Reps and Governors explain to their constituents why their communities are losing money and jobs!

...bill introduced to exclude undocumented children from Tennessee public schools?

Senate Bill 836 passed through the committee on a narrow 5-4 vote, pushing the potential bill to the Tennessee Senate floor for another vote. The bill includes language that could deny public education for children who are undocumented or who cannot prove their citizenship or legal residence in the U.S.
If they cannot prove their legal status, the bill allows districts to charge the students tuition and if they can't pay "tuition in full" deny enrollment.

Local public schools would be required to collect evidence of citizenship or legal residency status.
If a potential student was not a citizen or doesn't have legal residency in Tennessee, the school could charge them tuition to attend or block them entirely from attending if they don't pay.

A White man's awakening

On this last day of Black History Month, I feel moved to share my own realization of how Blacks were purposely left out of local histories.
I am a white man, raised in the North, who moved to a rural county in Tennessee only 5 years ago. I wound up becoming the caretaker for what I believe is a 140 year-old Black cemetery. There are very few engraved stone markers, especially for the older graves. I know from the research I have done, and from speaking with some of the older Black residents of the town, that many of the individuals buried there were former slaves (a nearby iron mill had nearly 400 slaves in 1860).
My research is mostly confined to going through death certificates to try to identify who is buried in this cemetery -- but the death certificates often neglect to state the place of burial. If it were a cemetery of Whites, I could look up obituaries in local newspapers. But, prior to the 1970's, the local newspapers completely ignored the Black citizens, unless it was to report a murder or robbery committed BY a Black. Larger cities in the South had Black-owned newspapers, but for small towns, the Black population was completely invisible as far as their newspapers were concerned.
While Black History Month was started to try to educate our society about the contributions of African Americans to the Sciences and the Arts, no number of History Months will give Black families the histories of their ancestors that were stolen from them.

They think they're safe as Trump's cheerleaders

How long before GOP leadership realizes that soon Trump and Musk are going to decide that the Legislative and Judicial branches of government are wasteful and are obstacles to (their) economic growth? I expect the Senators and Congress Reps won't catch on until they receive their tweets announcing that they have been fired. Clarence and Sam Alito will get their tweets, too!

I hope that when Johnson's house catches fire....

His neighbors just watch to make sure that the fire doesn't spread to THEIR houses.
These days, it's not 'It takes a village' -- now it's 'It takes a village idiot'.

I read Phillip Roth's The Plot Against America about 20 years ago,

but I had never seen the HBO miniseries adaptation.
I borrowed the miniseries DVD from the local library, and started watching it on January 19th (the day before Trump's inauguration). I watched the first three episodes that night, and felt so much panic that it took me 9 days before I could finish watching the remaining three episodes!
It was painful watching as the noose slowly closed in on the Jewish family and their neighbors. Just imagine -- a man ascends to the Presidency, cozies up to fascist dictators, abandons our allies, and openly supports violent extremists in our own country!
I think you can see why I posted this in the General Discussions forum, rather than the forum for posts about videos.
