follow up to "My Health Care Report:"

tonight I tried to copy and paste a note I sent a friend, but when I hit post a "403 forbidden" came up. I'm not sure what I did wrong. And I still want to share my note to a friend, so retyping:
My energy level has remained high. I haven't had any pain. I've been draining my urine bag and my wound drain, it is a two inch bulb you squeeze empty then close up so it has a vacuum that sucks the fluid out. When it is about half full I empty it and close it up. That has a safety pin to pin the bulb to wraps around my chest.

Last night while laying in the bed downstairs I started to hear the water dripping thru the roof and falling on the bed. I get up and get plastic containers to collect the water and set them on the bed. But when the water coming through the roof started falling on my face I got up and pulled the blankets down, set the pillows aside and put pans and plastic containers under the drips then climbed the ladder to my upstairs bed. I had dropped my jacket with my meds in it somewhere, so back down the ladder and I needed to get my alarm clock too so I wake up to take my medicine. I get settled in and all is OK. I don't have to get out of the bed to pee, and I don't have to get up from the computer and hope I can make it to the cottage cheese container before I start leaking. Then I would walk to the kitchen to fill my piss bottles which I dump on the compost pile. Now I don't have to deal with that. When I am in the kitchen I check my bags and empty as needed. It's going out in public I have been thinking about. This Sunday there is a radio give away and free lunch down at Black Mountain Camp. Had you heard? Want to be my date? Could you be seen with someone who has a urine bag hanging from their hip?

Maybe I should wear a long coat that covers it. But when I sit down I should put it on the floor. Then there is the issue of keeping from stepping on it.

My life is full of things I never had to consider before,

But the pile of papers stacked on my desk haven't been taken care of. It might have been last New Years I cleaned my desk. Just had my radios and check books along with the computer and keypad. But I would rather browse the net than clean my desk. Mary and Tim went through my kitchen, and living room space and threw out lots of stuff. (All my milk cartons I had saved all summer to have as fire starter when I want a fire in the fireplace,) I have found some things they have moved but there is a book I'm still looking for.
Tim came by today and helped me tack plastic drop cloth to the 8X12 and 4X6 rafters and that dropped the water into a five gallon bucket. A clamp for a stack of papers holds the drip edge in place. We took the sheet and mattress cover off so every thing can dry.

What excitement have you had today?

Hope this finds you well my friend.

I need to find a new long distance phone carrier

I have been using CREDO for several years, but they have quit the program. I can not make long distance calls. Frontier is my land line carrier, and I called them to see how much they charged to give me long distance service. They wanted to increase my bill $40/month. I do not have a cell phone, Just the land line. Frontier already charges me $47.69 a month. CREDO was charging me $16/month for long distance.

Any advice would be appreciated.

My Health Care Report:

Last Thursday I left home, returned Saturday.
❤️

Too good a story to be left not shared.

A prayer I often say goes something like this: “Eagle East; Coyote South; Brown Bear West; White Buffalo North; Great Spirit, Mother Earth, and all my relations, Thank you, for the many blessings bestowed upon me, and show me the path that I may be a blessing myself."

So I find myself last Thursday being driven to San Francisco to get an operation at Fort Miley. Around Bodega Bay we hear the EARTHQUAKE ALERT. Not much longer we hear the TSUNMAI ALERT. We were somewhat concerned about the surfers. The alerts are called off and we arrive in SF and I get my physical and covid test. (Found neg) We have a little time before they hand out the meals at the Hoptel, so we drive to the beach below the cliff house. We can’t stay so long as to see sunset, but we sit in the car and share a joint. Make some calls to loved ones to keep them informed. Back at Hoptel we pick up our meals (there was beef, chicken or pork options for the carnavoir, but only PB&J on an English muffin for the vegetarian). Ready to bathe I couldn’t find any towels. My neighbor who had driven down went on a search. She didn’t find anyone at the front desk and took to wandering the halls. She finds a man sitting on a couch. She finds out he had been in town playing poker and when he got back he couldn’t find his key. My neighbor says she is looking for towels. He said “I have a lot in my room", he shared with two other beds, all had towels and he hadn’t seen other people. The man moved his jacket and my neighbor heard keys. She asked to look at the jacket. She found a hole in a pocket, and the keys had slipped behind the liner of the jacket. She enlarged the hole, retrieved the key, he got her some towels and all went on their way. I find it very uplifting that amongst all that is going on in the world, two complete strangers can meet and solve each others difficulties. This is what my neighbor had to say about Fort Miley: "Every time I go to the SFVA, I am amazed at the sheer beauty of the place. The cliffs and ocean views are breathtaking and I am even more amazed that on the edge of a city, nature is still alive and well; hawks eating gophers, bats eating moths and everywhere I walk I hear hummingbird songs with waves in the background! Ho."

At the hospital. A short walk from the Hoptel, I checked in at 6 am, woke up in a room about 11. Every time they asked if I was in pain I said no, just felt minor discomfort. They fed me well. Dinner was chicken, leg and thigh. I had lasagna one meal. Scrambled eggs and cheese with English muffin, mush and coffee. Fresh apple slices. Was one breakfast.

I was treated very well by everyone. I tried to read DU but only reached the pages a couple of times. I use a key board at home, and couldn’t find the proper touch with this touch screen stuff. The guy I was in the room with seemed to have his TV turned to Jurassic Park as there was lots of strange noises and screaming. It was on low volume and the guy was on his phone most of the time. I feel very good about the service I have had. I was retaining urine, they had a rubber thing they could cover with KY jelly and rub on my belly and it showed how much my bladder still held. The first time they used it I peed 350ml and the device said I still had a lot so a cathature was inserted and it drained 650ml. The second time a cathatour was inserted it drained 700ml, so they sent me home with some tubes up my pluming to drain my bladder and a tube in my mastectomy to drain the fluids there.

Friends came by and cleaned house while I was gone, so there is a lot more room for me to get around. Still, I managed to fall once since my return.

With all the bad news about health care, I feel I should share my good experiences. I love DU and read it every day if I can.

Good Health to you all,
ADW

First rain of the season postponed an outdoor plan, so I had some time and listened to tRump in Coachella

WATCH LIVE: Trump holds campaign rally in Coachella in rare visit to solidly Democratic California

I have been watching this, He spends his time calling people names, talks about their looks, ‘skinny neck’ and saying we weren’t in any wars in his last four years.

He talked about the water released to the delta to sustain an ecosystem, and he wants to give it to agriculture in the central valley. Then there is a
‘Woke Military’ video that I could only hear the audio. The visual was just trump standing at the podium watching. At first I thought it was a cartoon, but when it was over I thought differently.

Oh my, I just noticed it’s four hours long. I watched the folks there, while a lot of songs were played, so I was watching when he came on stage.

“Race theory and trans gender the hell out of our schools.” And what men need to be kept out of women’ s sports? … “I will give back your freedom, I will give back your life.”… “We will make America wealthy again, we will make America healthy again.” (And ‘Project 2025” is the blueprint to do this?).

And then he finishes with a recording of the Village People singing “YMCA” and him dancing around he walks off and all the men in black suits follow, then the police and sheriffs. Then the soundtrack is “Macho Man” and the crowd seems to dance around and then the video goes black.

I sent the above to my republican siblings. I wondered who the woman was to the right dressed in the American flag and wearing a gold head dress/crown.

edit to add: There was a call out for a doctor at one point then trump was quiet. Then trump thanked those who assisted and he went back to his ranting.

My dog has died.

On Christmas Day he was put down. He didn't eat on the 24th, and vomited in the early evening. I let him out side, but he didn't come back in. When i was ready for bed I went looking for him. He came out from under a rose bush and came back in the house. After I had gone to bed I could hear him vomit again. When I got up in the morning I could see he vomited up a blood clot and was bleeding from his mouth. I took him to the emergency vet. They wanted $3000 to look at him I put it on my credit card. They took X-rays and said he had fluid in his abdomen, and would need a ultra sound to know what was wrong. To get that I would need to drive to Marin where it would cost $1,000 and I could spend the night in a Hotel. I said I wasn't going to be driving down there, and I would leave my dog overnight for them to do the ultrasound the next day. They wanted another $2000 before I left. They asked me to call when I got home. I did. Then they called me back a little later and said he went into septic shock, and rather then let him suffer, they put him down. I went back on Tuesday and picked him up to bring him home and bury him. They gave me a $1,620 refund. He was the smartest dog I have ever owned. All my other dogs would let themselves in when they wanted to come in the house, but he was the only one that would open the door from the inside and let himself out.

I live on a coastal ridge on the Sonoma Co California coast. There hasn't been a frost here yet this winter. I live within a Homeowners Association and there are a few 40 acre parcels for sale. I have wondered if there might be folks looking for property that might be interested in moving into the wild. There are Mt lions and bears that show up now and then. Twice I have had a mt lion thin my flock of sheep. The coyote has taken a few too. The soils are quite radical. There is a hill behind the firehouse that is made of chert. That used to be the ocean floor where diatoms collected and were subducted and transformed under heat and pressure into something the Indians could make arrow heads out of. There is also an area on the ranch whee there is a lot of cobble. I thought it was part of an old river bed, but a geologist told me it was glacial moraine. Then there are big boulders 15 - 20' in diameter that made their way here from the Sierras. The San Andras Fault is just a couple miles to the West. And on another near by Homeowners Association there is rock that used to be a volcanic core. There are also sandy soils called Gold Ridge Cap. A type of soil that will support apple orchards without needing summer water.

Well, my best friend has died. He came into my life crawling onto my lap and chewing on my beard. The 25th he got into the truck, then out of the truck and walked to the door of the Vet's but resisted going in the door way. Two people had to come carry him inside. I don't post a lot on DU, but I just wanted to connect with some folks and share my life. Just over 6 years ago I was driving home from visiting my family after Thanksgiving and lost my partner of 40 + years. I didn't share that with DU at the time, but I thought about doing so several times.

Well, I guess I will close this and wish everyone a productive new year.

Eagle East, Coyote South, Brown Bear West, White Buffalo North, Great Spirit, Mother Earth and all my relations; Thank You for the Many Blessings bestowed upon me and show me the path to be a blessing myself.
