Raven123's JournalSCOTUS justices avoid Red Mass due to security concerns
Due to security concerns, no Supreme Court justices attended this year's Red Mass Oct. 5 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington. The annual Mass prays for jurists and public officials the day before the start of the Supreme Court's term.
The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington reported that they had arrested a New Jersey man who had set up a tent on the steps of the cathedral and that they charged him with possession of explosives.
The Mass was delayed for about 20 minutes and hundreds of people waited outside before they were allowed to enter the cathedral through a side entrance.

I want no one to feel threatened or be harmed, and I think we are all in this together. Perhaps some of SCOTUS have been a little too detached. I hope their experiences mirror ours.
Archbishop McElroy and sisters denounce assault of migrants
A truth teller speaks out
"We are witnessing a comprehensive governmental assault designed to produce fear and terror among millions of men and women," he said. The government's actions make life unbearable for migrants, robbing them of peace "so that in misery, they will 'self-deport,' " he said.

Pope Leo XIV takes on billionaires, polarization and war
Didnt see this posted . Sorry if it is duplicate. Excellent article.
We have to continue to remind ourselves of the potential that humanity has to overcome the violence and the hatred that is just dividing us more and more, Leo said in the interview. We live in times when polarization seems to be one of the words of the day, but its not helping anybody. Or if its helping anyone, its very few when everyone else is suffering.
Leo XIV questioned the disproportionate difference in the incomes of modern CEOs and those of their workers, and challenged the extreme wealth of billionaires and trillionaires such as Elon Musk. What does that mean and whats that about? If that is the only thing that has value anymore, then were in big trouble, Leo said.

Scherwin - Williams cutting matching 401k contributions
Sherwin-Williams is cutting its matching contribution to employee retirement accounts as profits continue to decline for the paint company.
In an email sent Wednesday to employees, CEO Heidi Petz said the company was temporarily suspending the six percent match to workers 401k plans.
Petz cited housing affordability, inflation and global tariffs for the company's profit slump. She said she expects those economic headwinds to continue into 2026.
This is not the first time Sherwin-Williams has paused its retirement match, having done so during the 2009 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.
This comes just months after the company, headquartered in Cleveland, also announced a return to office mandate for hybrid employees beginning Jan. 1, 2026.
Days ago, the company received their initial occupancy permit from the city for their new 36-story, 1 million square-foot office tower built in Downtown Cleveland. 3,000 employees are expected to work at the $750 million building by next year.

Pope Leo XIII's most well known encylical
In 1891 Pope Leo XIII published Rerum Novarum, which is still cited as foundational to Catholic social teaching. Pretty sure this has some relationship to the new Popes name of Leo XIV.

Senate Republicans set to bypass parliamentarian on Trump Tax Cuts
Source: The Hill
Republicans are set to make the audacious play of bypassing the Senate parliamentarian and moving forward with a budget resolution based on a scoring baseline set by Budget Committee Chair Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) that would allow them to argue extending President Trumps 2017 tax cuts wont add to the deficit.
