intheflow's JournalThis isn't a new tactic. After Hurricane Katrina,
in Mississippi, I worked with a legal aid group that was helping immigrants who had signed up to work recovery. They promised housing and meals but they put them up in a place that looked a lot like the photos I've seen of Alligator
Alcatraz. The people "housing" them fed them undercooked food, took all their identification, let alligators out at night to patrol the barracks to keep anyone from leaving the premises, and then, after working in toxic clean-up jobs for a month or so, ICE came in and mass deported the lot. Then the next round of immigrants came in. It was awful and inhumane. And Republicans have been getting off on this cruelty for at least the last 20 years.
I was really pissed when Skinner & EarlG allowed Lounge posts on the Greatest Page.
Like, WTF? Lounge posts are frivolous and I come to the GP for news.
Fast forward
10 years? Damned if those GP Lounge posts dont save me from drowning in the surreal reality of living under fascism. I bow down to Admin wisdom and forethought. Bring the trampoline sheep and formerly unloved dog vids! The dumb dad jokes and beautiful photography! And thank you all for finding and sharing the joy.
No. Ignoring stuff like this is how we lose.
Do you support Trump's crackdown on immigrants? His dismanteling the entire government? Withholding FEMA money from states he doesn't like? Letting unqualified 22 year olds take charge of all our personal information - Social Security, medical records, military records, and leaving them open and stealable? You're an old vet; do you approve of what Hegspeth is doing to the services? Why would you actively discourage citizens to forego their Constitutional right to peaceably protest? Perhaps your take is the Vietnam protests were worthless, the Civil Rights movement was pointless, and Stonewall was a joke. If so, your take would be wrong.
Honestly, this seems like dismissing Thomas Jefferson because he owned enslaved people.
Bose is complicated, and from our Western European stand point Nazi-sympathizer = evil fascist. And I'd support that in 98% of the applications. However, we're talking about someone from another culture at a time when India was trying to gain independence from England. To dismiss him out of hand strikes me as a little racist (though probably unconsciously).
Our world is complicated, humans are complicated, and history is messy. If someone wore a t-shirt with Thomas Jefferson's image, would you automatically assume the person was a MAGA-level racist? No, because Jefferson is a hero here in very much the same way Bose is in India. Both did bad things but they also brought independence to their respected countries.
You have GOT to see the plaintiffs & defendants in last night's TRO
blocking the regime from further dismantling our government! A vast and diverse coalition of unions, nonprofits, and governmental agencies are suing, by name, nearly everyone in Trumps cabinet and Musk. The list of plaintiffs goes on about a page, and the defendants goes on for another three pages. Its a relief to finally see organizations joining together to show how all the pieces fit. And it gives me hope when the court responds appropriately to the totality of destruction and norms.

I'm hopeful that this may be the stick that breaks the camel's back.
First of all, it's a story that keeps getting louder, as opposed to everything else except tariffs that disappeared in a 24-hour shock and awe campaign. Indeed, it's widening to many reports coming out of so many more innocents, there are so many more lawsuits going over the kidnappings, and also, Boasberg's considering contempt charges regarding the midnight planes that he ordered turned around that weren't, one of which was carrying Garcia. This is really ballooning into a narrative they can't control - which is beautiful. And also, all these courts finding similar human rights abuses in all the deportations... they are building a fantastic case that the SCOTUS has already affirmed once. I'm guardedly hopeful, not for Mr. Garcia's or anyone's return, but in this regime's implosion.
I find myself spending more time of BlueSky these days.
Like Twitter of olden days, it often has the breaking news people post here an hour or two before I see it here. Now I'm using DU more for long editorial pieces and long video clips.
I also don't post as much here any more because I suspect I've been stalked by posters who haven't appreciated my constructive criticism of some Dem leaders, to the point where I've started having posts locked or removed, basically the first time this has happened in the 20+ years I've been here. I don't care to post where I'm not wanted. Sad to say, it's not only Republicans who feel the need to silence people who they don't agree with. Or else, whoever was doing it is a troll. Whatever the case, these are reasons why I don't post here as much any more.
Are they prudes, or pervs?
They pretend they're prudes but then their leaders are constantly found to be pedophiles, adulterers, and swingers. They want to physically check the pants of girls only to ensure no one with a penis is pretending to be female at school so they can get a field hockey trophy. If you ban books about sex acts, it's easier for pervs to tell their young victims lies about what they're doing to them because the kids will be completely in the dark about their own bodies.
TL;DR: It's not about sex. It's about control.
User uploaded video on C-SPAN of Trump admitting to rigged election?
Purportedly video of him on March 7th, 2025, slipping an admittance of guilt in while signing an EO about hosting FIFA in 2026.

C-SPAN doesnt take credit for this but they havent taken it down, either.
Trump did sign this EO on that day.

Sounds like the fix is in.
Planning to steal votes again. Remember this when Trump holds free and fair elections in 2026, while also telling his base they dont need to vote for him.
