Swalwell: Republicans in Congress getting Death threats from Trump/MAGATs

Republicans terrified of crossing Trump due to physical threats, Democrat says
Eric Swalwell says threats to them and their families are stopping GOP officials from criticizing president

Republicans on Capitol Hill are shying away from criticizing Donald Trump’s policies over fears for their physical safety and that of their families, a Democratic member of Congress has said.
Eric Swalwell, a Democratic representative from California, said his Republican colleagues were “terrified” of crossing Trump not only because of the negative impact on their political careers, but also from anxiety that it might provoke physical threats that could cause personal upheaval and require them to hire round-the-clock security as protection.
Swalwell’s comments came in a webinar chaired by the journalist Sidney Blumenthalin response to a question on whether Republicans might be driven to rebel against or even impeach Trump.
“I have a lot of friends who are Republicans,” he said. “They are terrified of being the tallest poppy in the field, and it’s not as simple as being afraid of being primaried and losing their job. They know that that can happen.

Latest poll: 92% of Reps approve of Trump, 5% of Dems, 39% of Independents.

If you look at the details of most approval ratings of Trump, they also show Trump still has high approval ratings amongst Republicans.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/658661/republicans-men-push-trump-approval-higher-second-term.aspx

As a follow-up to the overall job approval question, Gallup asked Americans who either approve or disapprove of Trump whether they do so “strongly” or “moderately.” Most Americans have strong opinions, including 32% who approve strongly and 46% who disapprove strongly of how Trump is handling his job.

This strength of approval/disapproval question was asked at least once in each year of Trump’s first term. Between 2017 and 2020, he earned strong approval ratings from 26% to 33% of Americans, and strong disapproval ratings from 36% to 44% of Americans.

Partisans’ current views of Trump are highly polarized — 91% of Democrats strongly disapprove of Trump’s performance, while 78% of Republicans strongly approve. Forty-six percent of independents strongly disapprove, and 20% strongly approve.

How absolutely dangerous/insidious Fox News and right-wing news is.

A neighbor who I’m friendly with who always votes Republican voted for Trump in the last few elections except this one. We always talk politics and she had always just watched Fox with a little bit of CNN. I had been urging her to watch MSNBC but she never would. Finally, one day I told her to turn to MSNBC - which she did. She started warching it. She was appalled about Trump and ended up voting for Harris - the first Democrat she ever voted for.

I just had a conversation with her and she is totally propagandized back to being a Trump/Republican supporter in just one week of watching Fox. She first said it was horrible that people were burning people’s Teslas. She said “everybody voted for Trump to have him straighten out the budget and to save money. I dont know why people are getting so mad about it - thats what the people all voted for.” I straightened her out about this but she said “I don’t know what to believe. They’re all saying thing completely opposite each other.” Then she brought up the “choose your Fighter” video with house Democrats half squatting or bouncing in pretend fighter positions and stated how disgusting it was. In one week this woman went from being anti-Trump to totally being propagandized and brainwashed and supporting him. This woman is not stupid- she has a BA from a good (but conservative Catholic) university and is a registered nurse.

Help! Trying to come up with a list of the cruelest things Musk/Trump have done to post to Trumpsters online.

I plan on posting a statement to every person who says that Trump/Musk “is doing what they promised” something like: “So you’re ok with cutting programs for Children with Cancer, aid to starving people around the world, 80,000 veterans losing their jobs, the 37.6 million children losing their healthcare, food aid for school children?”

wtf? One-Quarter of Americans Believe Donald Trump Is a Tool of the Devil, According to a New Study.

This is from 2019. I have heard a few people here and there saying this in liberal groups. There was an article in the Reformed Journal - a conservative Christian Reformed journal https://reformedjournal.com/2024/09/09/for-this-reformed-christian-trump-is-an-antichrist-let-me-tell-you-why/ about this and the majority of people agreed with him.

while 17.2 percent of Americans believe Trump’s election “is a reflection of God’s will,” 27.7 percent believe he is “working for the devil.” That same percentage replied affirmatively to the statement: “The devil is using Donald Trump for his purposes.”

If this is true, why don’t we head more about this. I admit I don’t really know too many religious conservatives. Why are they not speaking out? Another article that did research on this:

https://spssi.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/asap.12184

I was not really a person who believes in the devil, etc. but I admit the thought has popped into my mind because I think it’s inexplicable that the numbers of evangelicals basically “worship” him. And words get thrown around that he is the “Chosen One.”

Schumer: "It is hard to believe that the Trump administration wants to cut Social Security"

Social Security Checks Could Stop Going Out by April, Ex-Head Warns
Mar. 3 2025

https://www.thedailybeast.com/former-social-security-head-warns-system-could-collapse-in-next-30-to-90-days/

The former head of the Social Security Administration warns that proposed cuts to the agency could lead the entire system to “collapse,” disrupting benefits payments to millions of Americans.
“Ultimately, you’re going to see the system collapse, and there will be an interruption of benefits,” Martin O’Malley, former Social Security commissioner under the Biden administration, told CNBC. “I think that will happen within the next 30 to 90 days.”

-snip-
“It is hard to believe that the Trump administration wants to cut Social Security, but that’s what’s happening,” Schumer said.

-snip-

“The Trump administration is putting Social Security benefits at risk by firing the staff who help beneficiaries and closing down the offices that serve communities across the country,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said in a statement earlier this week.

Former co-worker: "Now they're going too far"

She’s upset about Trump saying they can deport people with green cards. Her husband is a Chilean who is probably here on a green card. I think her husband probably voted for Trump - he is a “fake” Libertarian - he does not know American politics at all. I don’t know where she stands politically but they are quite wealthy. In an office full of liberal social workers who railed against Republicans, she was always very tight-lipped about her views so she may have voted for Trump. So now they have to live in fear.

The leopard is eating their faces…

The REAL dirty secret of why Trump is kissing Putin's ass.

I had been thinking that Trump had some sort of “crush” and admiration for Putin - which is somewhat true. But after reading several articles about how Russia saved Trump’s ass when he couldn’t borrow money from any American bank

It's all about how Russia saved Trump from bankruptcy/financial ruin with "dirty money"

https://foreignpolicy.com/2018/12/21/how-russian-money-helped-save-trumps-business/

and how this was “dirty money”
and laundered money that was tied to Russian criminals it is making more sense.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/21/opinion/sunday/trump-business-mueller-money-laundering.html

Trump is completely tied to various foreign criminal elements that could put him in prison for the rest of his life. He has so many ties to corrupt individuals that it’s completely astounding.

https://swalwell.house.gov/issues/russia-trump-his-administration-s-ties

Not only does his (Trumps) past and current team have ties to Russia, but the President himself also does. He has traveled to Russia extensively, done business there often, and has ties to Russian interests. For example, in 2008 he made a real estate sale to Russian billionaire, Dmitry Rybolovlev. Trump bought a Palm Beach mansion in 2004 during a bankruptcy sale for $41 million, and less than four years later, without ever having moved in, Trump sold the mansion to Rybolovlev for $95 million.

The Russian mafia also likely fits into this scenario:

https://www.amazon.com/House-Trump-Putin-Untold-Russian/dp/152474350X

House of Trump, House of Putin offers the first comprehensive investigation into the decades-long relationship among Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and the Russian Mafia that ultimately helped win Trump the White House.

It is a chilling story that begins in the 1970s, when Trump made his first splash in the booming, money-drenched world of New York real estate, and ends with Trump’s inauguration as president of the United States. That moment was the culmination of Vladimir Putin’s long mission to undermine Western democracy, a mission that he and his hand-selected group of oligarchs and Mafia kingpins had ensnared Trump in, starting more than twenty years ago with the massive bailout of a string of sensational Trump hotel and casino failures in Atlantic City. This book confirms the most incredible American paranoias about Russian malevolence.

…..Trump’s apartments offering the perfect vehicle for billions of dollars to leave the collapsing Soviet Union. In House of Trump, House of Putin, Craig Unger methodically traces the deep-rooted alliance between the highest echelons of American political operatives and the biggest players in the frightening underworld of the Russian Mafia. He traces Donald Trump’s sordid ascent from foundering real estate tycoon to leader of the free world. He traces Russia’s phoenix like rise from the ashes of the post–Cold War Soviet Union as well as its ceaseless covert efforts to retaliate against the West and reclaim its status as a global superpower.

Without Trump, Russia would have lacked a key component in its attempts to return to imperial greatness. Without Russia, Trump would not be president. This essential book is crucial to understanding the real powers at play in the shadows of today’s world. The appearance of key figures in this book—Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen, and Felix Sater to name a few—ring with haunting significance in the wake of Robert Mueller’s report and as others continue to close in on the truth.

And don’t forget about Rep. Devin Nunes, who was investigated for possibly disclosing classified information to Russia.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna827646

“stepped aside as chair of the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election amid an ethics probe into allegations that he disclosed classified information — was cleared late Thursday of any wrongdoing” (only because it was determined that the information wasn’t classified.

Nunes then was caught pleading with Republicans to protect Trump from investigation into Russian election interference

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/secret-recording-highlights-nunes-concern-with-protecting-trump-in-russia-probe

A secret recording acquired by MSNBC captures House Intelligence chairman Republican Rep. Devin Nunes at a fundraiser discussing the Russia probe -- specifically how Republicans should protect President Trump from the special counsel investigation into Russian election interference.

Nunes also interfered with and discredited the Steele Dossier

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/02/08/politics/devin-nunes-tactics-dossier-russia-investigation

Also, several right-wing media influencers have been indicted because of their ties to a company that was secretly funded by Russian state media employees

https://apnews.com/article/russian-interference-presidential-election-influencers-trump-999435273dd39edf7468c6aa34fad5dd

And they worked unknowingly for a company that was a front for a Russian influence operation, U.S. prosecutors say.

Facebook Group: Democrats Republicans and Independents for Democracy having hard time getting their posts onto Facebook.

Looks like a good idea. We need to bring more Republicans and Indies over to our side. Things will not change until Republicans start to turn against Trump. If everyday Republicans start changing, most of the Republicans in Congress will start behaving differently.
