Widespread Death Threats get Republicans, maybe Judges? to fall in line, vote

Most of us saw how afraid Sen. Lisa Murkowski was about death threats. Apparently there are MAGA thugs basically “running things” and Trump also issues threats.

I’ve also heard some elderly/disabled people in my “relatively safe” area being afraid to go out to protest.

“The Trump MAGA machine is powerful. They are aggressive. They are nasty. They issue death threats.”

Violent Threats Against Members of Congress Spiked as Senate Considered Trump’s Nominees

When Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) went from a likely no vote on confirming Pete Hegseth to become Defense Secretary to an easy yes, the switch was attributed to political pressure from Trump and his allies.

How death threats get Republicans to fall in line behind Trump

As a result, the threat of violence is now a part of the American political system, to the point where Republican officials are — by their own admissions — changing the way they behave because they fear it. For Richer, the price back in 2021 was high — and enough to prevent him from safely participating in his own party’s politics.

-snip-

Richer was an Arizona Republican official who regularly attended local party events. At the time, he was the newly elected county recorder of Maricopa County. The job was a new level of prominence — he was now the most important election supervisory official in the state’s largest county.

But at one event, the crowd heckled and harassed him. When he tried to leave, they dragged him back in, yanking on his arms and shoulders, to berate him about the allegedly stolen 2020 election. He started to worry: Would his own people, fellow Republican Party members, seriously hurt him?

Pizzas sent as threats in name of judge’s murdered son
Judge Esther Salas highlights new tactic as intimidation against judges escalates
BRENDA FLANAGAN, SENIOR CORRESPONDENT | APRIL 16, 2025

pizzas have been delivered to judges all over this country in the last few months. And in the last few weeks — judges’ children.” Salas said her late son’s name was included with pizza deliveries this week. Daniel Anderl was shot dead in 2020 at the front door of the family’s New Jersey home by an angry lawyer Salas had previously ruled against.
“And now Daniel’s name was being weaponized to bring fear to judges and their children. You’re saying to those judges — ‘You want to end up like Judge Salas? You want to end up like Judge Salas’ son?'” she said.

Relatives of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett residing in multiple households received pizza deliveries from an unknown person over the past weekend.

Recent incidents have involved judges and their families receiving anonymous pizza deliveries as part of a form of harassment or threat, where the pizza is ordered in the name of the judge's deceased loved one.

Republicans terrified of crossing Trump due to physical threats, Democrat says.
Eric Swalwell says threats to them and their families are stopping GOP officials from criticizing president

From a friend in Michigan. Nice going! Dem protesters booing Dem Rep at protest.

I really have no patience anymore with all the Democrats wasting their energy complaining about fellow Democrats “not doing enough for them” instead of centering their anger on Republicans. IMO those Dems are more to blame than the “timid” Democrats in Congress. The only real power Democrats have right now is to go to court and sue. I get the Dems who are royally pissed off and yelling and screaming at the Democrats for not being effective. But why not suggest ways Democrats can come up with an effective way of messaging and to win over more independents AND Republicans who are just starting to get angry? They love showing clips on propaganda outlets and Fox News of Elizabeth Warren or Jasmine Crockett and making fun of them. I know people are thinking “screw those rotten Republicans!”! But that attitude is part of the reason we’re in the mess we’re in

A report from a Michigan friend:

I don't know if you were in Lansing Michigan for the April 5th protest.? When our state representative Julie brixby was making her speech she mentioned that the Democrats on the stage and in the Capital are working hard to make sure that we stop Trump from taking our Federal dollars in our state.
Just as she said that 7,000 people began to chant do your job! Do your job! Over and over again until she thanked everybody for coming and left the stage defeated. The Republicans who were there protesting because they lost money in their 401k’s that were surrounding me (about eight of them), started to cheer and laugh and they said to each other directly behind me that the crowd hates Democrats and that they were ready to all vote for their party (the Republican Party) in office again in larger numbers than the last time and they laughed. As she walked by them, going back into the capitol, they taunted her acted like they spat on her and gave her the finger telling her what a waste she was. I'll never forget it. I began to yell at them and the crowd, it was unfair.
She is a state representative, she has no way of producing a US Bill to put on a US house floor or US senate floor or vote to impeach Trump because she is a state representative. I have worked with her in the past I know what she does. it was because of her that we were able to get prop 3 on the ballot! It was because of her that we have the gun laws that we have in Michigan that she wrote/co-sponsored. She's an amazing Democrat and we are so lucky to have her in our state supporting and fighting for our democracy. I will never support a Republican. Ever. I will never forget how she was treated either.

What is Putin going to do? Is he really "the master" or is he going to strike back?

You would think that he would be concerned about Trump and the United States becoming so powerful. He had threatened Trump a few weeks ago when Trump had “pushed him” a bit. Is Putin going to be sorry that he has helped Trump become so powerful? Other countries leaders are calling and visiting Trump to get favorable treatment. Trump is picking and choosing what countries to screw over with tariffs, etc. He’s really getting “full of himself.”

So scary.. the goal is the complete destruction of this country.

I apologize because this has probably already been posted but it’s worth posting again

HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
MAR 28, 2025

The craziness going on around us in the first two months of the second Trump administration makes a lot more sense if you remember that the goal of those currently in power was never simply to change the policies or the personnel of the U.S. government. Their goal is to dismantle the central pillars of the United States of America—government, law, business, education, culture, and so on—because they believe the very shape of those institutions serves what they call “the Left.”

Their definition of “the Left” includes all Americans, Republicans and Independents as well as Democrats, who believe the government has a role to play in regulating business, providing a basic social safety net, promoting infrastructure, and protecting civil rights and who support the institutional structures Americans have built since World War II.

Last month, journalist Gil Duran of The Nerd Reich noted that Curtis Yarvin, a thinker popular with the technological elite currently aligned with the religious extremists at Project 2025, laid out a plan in 2022 to gut the U.S. government and replace it with a dictatorship. This would be a “reboot” of the country, Yarvin wrote, and it would require a “full power start,” a reference to restarting a stalled starship by jumping to full power, which risks destroying the ship.

Yarvin called for “giving absolute sovereignty to a single organization,” headed by the equivalent of the rogue chief executive officer of a corporation who would destroy the public institutions of the democratic government. Trump—whom Yarvin dismissed as weak—would give power to that CEO, who would “run the executive branch without any interference from the Congress or courts…. Most existing important institutions, public and private, will be shut down and replaced with new and efficient systems.” Once loyalists have replaced civil servants in a new ideological “army,” the CEO “will throw it directly against the administrative state—not bothering with confirmed appointments, just using temporary appointments as needed. The job of this landing force is not to govern.” The new regime must take over the country and “perform the real functions of the old, and ideally perform them much better.” It must “seize all points of power, without respect for paper protections.”

CNN is worse than Fox. First, a slick Republican propagandist, then "nice guy" Tim Walz being polite.

This is how they do it. The Republican Party widely uses propaganda - they have manuals on what words to use and different methods of propagandizing. Then they get their best propagandists to be on to completely bullshit their heads off. They can make a turd look like a “gleaming diamond.” Then they had “nice-guy” Tim Walz - who “bless his heart” was incapable of debating her and was being “polite.” Then they had a panel with 2 “liberals” and two Republicans who talked right over them. I don’t usually have CNN on and don’t like how they have “both sides” on. I don’t want to hear some Republican spouting off bullshit. I can’t believe some people actually call that network “liberal” it’s just a joke. No wonder a party with downright “poisonous” ideas are able to beat a party that has “decent” ideas and cares for people, wildlife, the environment. First of all, Democrats need to learn how to deal with these propagandists - pamphlets and classes for all of them. THEN have our best speakers who are not wimps appear on the shows. We need “killers” who know how to strike back. Instead of Tim Walz and Schumer, we needed someone like Chris Murphy. I haven’t been a big fan of Bernie Sanders in the past couple of years but I can see why people are liking him and going to his rallies - he knows how to fight - despite his age, he has a “killer instinct” when it comes to speaking and debating.

Swalwell: Republicans in Congress getting Death threats from Trump/MAGATs

Republicans terrified of crossing Trump due to physical threats, Democrat says
Eric Swalwell says threats to them and their families are stopping GOP officials from criticizing president

Republicans on Capitol Hill are shying away from criticizing Donald Trump’s policies over fears for their physical safety and that of their families, a Democratic member of Congress has said.
Eric Swalwell, a Democratic representative from California, said his Republican colleagues were “terrified” of crossing Trump not only because of the negative impact on their political careers, but also from anxiety that it might provoke physical threats that could cause personal upheaval and require them to hire round-the-clock security as protection.
Swalwell’s comments came in a webinar chaired by the journalist Sidney Blumenthalin response to a question on whether Republicans might be driven to rebel against or even impeach Trump.
“I have a lot of friends who are Republicans,” he said. “They are terrified of being the tallest poppy in the field, and it’s not as simple as being afraid of being primaried and losing their job. They know that that can happen.

Latest poll: 92% of Reps approve of Trump, 5% of Dems, 39% of Independents.

If you look at the details of most approval ratings of Trump, they also show Trump still has high approval ratings amongst Republicans.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/658661/republicans-men-push-trump-approval-higher-second-term.aspx

As a follow-up to the overall job approval question, Gallup asked Americans who either approve or disapprove of Trump whether they do so “strongly” or “moderately.” Most Americans have strong opinions, including 32% who approve strongly and 46% who disapprove strongly of how Trump is handling his job.

This strength of approval/disapproval question was asked at least once in each year of Trump’s first term. Between 2017 and 2020, he earned strong approval ratings from 26% to 33% of Americans, and strong disapproval ratings from 36% to 44% of Americans.

Partisans’ current views of Trump are highly polarized — 91% of Democrats strongly disapprove of Trump’s performance, while 78% of Republicans strongly approve. Forty-six percent of independents strongly disapprove, and 20% strongly approve.
