Panicked U.S. hotels are slashing room rates for the World Cup amid a demand shortfall, exacerbated by what executives believe is being driven by a surge in anti-American sentiment.
Industry executives had hopes that FIFA’s World Cup would revive last year’s slump in travel to the country. Last year, FIFA projected that millions of international visitors would give the U.S. a $30.5 billion economic boost.
But that demand hasn’t materialized, forcing FIFA to begin cancelling tens of thousands of reserved rooms in host cities across the country. Eleven U.S. cities will be hosting matches during the World Cup, scheduled from June 11 through July 19.

At just two-tenths of an inch long, it might seem like a strange directive to avoid the Asian needle ant. However, you might face a painful lesson if you underestimate the invasive species' sting.
What's happening?
WFSB reported on the spread of the Asian needle ant across the United States.
Sightings of the industrious insect have been reported in 22 states. At such a small size, you might not easily identify it in the forest or a garden. However, if you're allergic to its sting, you definitely won't miss it....................
According to Scientific American, a sting from an Asian needle ant can lead to anaphylaxis. Swelling in the lips or tongue, hives, or difficulty breathing should prompt a trip to the emergency room. .....................

The US doesn’t pay NATO anywhere close to “trillions of dollars” or “hundreds of billions of dollars a year.” Trump hasn’t built anywhere close to “over 1,000 miles of wall.” Trump hasn’t “ended eight wars.” It’s not true that “nobody” else has ended a war. Trump didn’t achieve “no tax on Social Security.” Ruth Bader Ginsburg died weeks before a presidential election, not right after one. Senator Thom Tillis is still a senator.

Several shots lost their recommendation from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) after a judge’s stay against changes made by the Trump administration – which may affect access to the shots in some states. And no new vaccine recommendations may be made as long as the vaccines committee is halted.
Access to existing vaccines – and the future development of new vaccines – has been increasingly called into question under the second Trump administration, as the now-halted Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) made controversial recommendations and health officials made unilateral changes to routine vaccines, with long-term and global implications.
Recommendations for the current annual flu and Covid shots no longer exist, and the recommendation for a new shot to protect babies against RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is also on hold. It’s not clear if new shots will be recommended in coming months, even in anticipation of respiratory virus spikes.....................

Oil prices have started to slip — but not necessarily for reasons that suggest a return to market normalcy.
The International Energy Agency said Tuesday that “demand destruction” has begun to unfold. As a result of the acute energy commodity shortages stemming from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, oil appears to have reached a point where it is now so expensive that overseas businesses and households have begun curbing investment and consumption.
Countries in Asia, Europe and even other parts of the Middle East that depend on supplies passing through the strait have begun curtailing their use of natural gas, seen waves of flight cancellations and implemented policies to reduce overall fuel use, the agency noted in the report.
It’s a phenomenon likely to affect global economic growth. And while it does not yet appear to be affecting the U.S. economy, any impact would threaten to destabilize an already fragile labor market. ..................

ROME — Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has suspended Italy's defense cooperation agreement with Israel as she continues to distance her government from the U.S.-Israeli war in Iran that has enveloped the Middle East.
Speaking on the fringes of a wine industry event in the northern city of Verona on Tuesday, Meloni told reporters her government "has decided to suspend the automatic renewal of the defense agreement with Israel in consideration of the current situation."
The 2003 deal concerns the exchange of military material and technological research between the two armed forces and automatically renews every 5 years. Human rights lawyers have urged Italy to end the agreement, citing legal and ethical concerns over Israel's strikes in Gaza.
The move comes amid rising tensions between Italy and Israel, after Israel Defense Forces fired warning shots at an Italian peacekeeping convoy outside Beirut, Lebanon on

Justin Sun, among the largest investors in the Trump family’s primary crypto company, claims the company is misleading investors. It’s the most prominent instance yet of a crypto insider aligned with President Donald Trump calling out his family’s crypto dealings, which Democrats have said benefit from the president’s authority.
Sunday on X, Sun, a billionaire who is among the most recognizable figures in the crypto industry, accused the Trump group, World Liberty Financial, of setting up a system that grants company officials unilateral power over user accounts. That includes the ability to freeze them.
Sun alleges that his account has been subject to a freeze since September and that he has not been able to sell his holdings. According to analysis by the blockchain tracking group Bubblemaps, the value of the holdings Sun has allegedly been unable to move has declined by more than $80 million, to about $43 million. Sun has said he spent at least $75 million on World Liberty tokens, at one point becoming its largest investor.
“I have always been an ardent supporter of President Trump and his crypto friendly policy,” Sun wrote. However, he said, “this is the opposite of decentralization. This is a trap door marketed as an open door. I denounce the ongoing token scandals by the bad actors at WLFI.”.................
