Rubio wishes Switzerland happy national holiday -- as Trump ruins celebrations

Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended what could be viewed as a hollow "congratulations" to Switzerland Friday as it celebrated its nation's founding just a day after President Donald Trump imposed the highest tariff on any European nation.

"I extend my congratulations to the people of Switzerland on your National Day, August 1," Rubio wrote in a press statement. "The United States values its strong and steady relationship with Switzerland. Our cooperation spans trade, finance, and security areas where Swiss leadership and reliability continue to make a global impact."

Politico reporter Douglas Busvine wrote, "Normally on Aug. 1, the country of 9 million commemorates the founding of the Swiss Confederation in the year 1291. As on July 4 in the U.S., people celebrate with fireworks and parades."

'Brutal' job report leaves experts reeling: 'Hard to overstate how bad'

The latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released on Friday showed a significant slowdown in hiring across the economy.

In total, the BLS estimated that a mere 73,000 jobs were added to the U.S. economy in July, which was well below economists' consensus estimate of 117,500 net job gains.

What really made the latest jobs report concerning, however, was the downward revision of previous months' gains, which the BLS described as "larger than normal." The number of jobs added in May was revised downward from 144,000 to 19,000, while the number of jobs added in June was revised downward from 147,000 to 14,000. Taken together, this means that the economy has added an average of just 35,000 jobs per month over the last three months.

This, as he also claims to be “done” with the Epstein files scandal even as a zillion questions remain about President Donald “P***y Grabber” Trump's relationship with child sex trafficker Julian Epstein.

'So so so corrupt': DOJ drops case against firm connected to Pam Bondi

The U.S. Justice Department this week dropped an antitrust case against a company represented by the lobbying firm that employed Pam Bondi before her confirmation as attorney general earlier this year.

American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) has paid the lobbying giant Ballard Partners hundreds of thousands of dollars this year to pressure Bondi's Justice Department on "antitrust issues," according to federal disclosures.

The DOJ's decision to drop the antitrust lawsuit, which was initially filed during the final days of the Biden administration, allows Amex GBT's acquisition of rival CWT Holdings to move forward despite concerns that the merger would harm competition in the travel management sector. Amex GBT said it was "pleased" the DOJ dropped the case ahead of trial, which was set to begin in September.

'Legacy is at risk!' GOP senator urges colleagues to 'fix' Trump's massive megabill cuts

Sen. Tom Tillis (R-NC) made an impassioned plea Wednesday to his Republican colleagues to "fix" provisions in President Donald Trump’s budget reconciliation package that are projected to kick 15 million people off of Medicaid over 10 years, warning that the cuts will put “Trump’s legacy at risk.”

“The reason I came to the floor today on the birthday of Medicaid is to say I believe the president does not want to harm qualified beneficiaries of Medicaid – this bill will in its current form,” Tillis said, speaking on the Senate floor. “...There's a way to fix it, but if we don't fix it, I believe that our president's legacy is at risk.”

Tillis was one of the few Republicans to defy Trump on his budget reconciliation package, dubbed the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," citing concerns over its impact on Medicaid and food assistance programs. He announced his retirement just days before the Senate passed the megabill amid growing scrutiny from the White House, but after voting against the measure.

'Dangerous': Trump prosecutor's 'casual' corruption allegations against Dems raise alarm

Veteran journalist Jon Ralston pointed to President Donald Trump's U.S. attorney, who appears to be mixing her political job with her government one.

In a post on X, Sigal Chattah alleged that the U.S. senators for Nevada were somehow scamming the state because they want fiber optic internet connecting rural parts of the state. Chattah says that the state already has high-speed internet.

"It took me two minutes to understand why our illustrious NV Senators were apoplectic about their $400 million BEAD money being cut when 90% of Nevadans already had broadband high-speed internet," Chattah wrote. "#47 crushed their fiber optic scam in a minute. Nobody makes cheddar on the back end better than Nevada’s politicians. The fruit never falls far from the tree."

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said it was "not my lane" when he was asked if he supported President Donald Trump granting a pardon for Jeffrey Epstein's accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.

During a Sunday interview on Meet the Press, host Kristen Welker asked Johnson about a possible pardon for Maxwell.

"President Trump didn't rule out a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell," the host pointed out. "Of course, that's one of the big questions looming over all of this. So let me put this to you, Mr. Speaker. Would you support a pardon or a commutation for Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker?"

Fox News host Charlie Hurt argued that President Donald Trump's administration should bring back child labor to replace undocumented immigrants.

Following a visit to a blueberry farm over the weekend, Hurt argued with Fox News hosts Rachel Campos-Duffy and Charlie Kirk about whether or not the government should be subsidizing small farms.

"And the debate, you guys, is what should government — I mean, look, it's very labor-intensive to do, for example, blueberries," Campos-Duffy said. "So what should government subsidize?"
