💡VACCINE MANDATE?a young 20-year-old UNC student is now brain dead from #COVID19 complicationshis mother begged, cajoled, nagged him to #vaccinateshe now begs you. ➡️damning@UNC_System doesnt mandate vaccineshe caught COVID 2 days after arriving. 🧵
I cajoled, encouraged, threatened, and nagged for him to get vaccinated, Tylers mother, Tamra Demello, told WECT. I did everything I could possibly think. I think he did some research where he was thinking that it was going to hurt his heart long-term or something Im not even sure where he was getting his information which is super frustrating. Sometimes, I felt like the harder I pushed the more he basically said to me, mom, leave me alone. I can take care of myself.
After catching COVID-19 two days after moving from Cary to Wilmington to attend UNCW, Tyler got extremely sick. Demello said Tylers COVID infection morphed into a sinus infection combined with a staph infection, which later passed into his brain.
An abscess on his brain ruptured last week and he was rushed to the hospital by his roommates. Tyler briefly regained consciousness, but continued to lose brain function. On Friday, a CAT scan revealed there was no blood flow to his brain and the damage was irreversible.

Q. How can the GOP keep sacrificing their own voters to Red Covid?
A. Theyve realized they dont need voters to win elections anymore.

Goodbye and Good Riddance
Leonard Pitts column nails it: Goodbye and Good Riddance:This is for those of you whove chosen to quit your jobs rather than submit to a vaccine mandate.
snip
Well, on behalf of the rest of us, the ones who miss concerts, restaurants and other peoples faces, the ones who are sick and tired of living in pandemic times, heres a word of response to you quitters: Goodbye.
And heres two more: Good riddance.
snip
But the rest of us, were mad at you. Because this thing could have been over by now, and youre the reason it isnt.
Thats why we were glad President Joe Biden stopped asking nicely, started requiring vaccinations everywhere he had power to do so. We were also glad when employers followed suit. And if thats a problem for you, then, yes, goodbye, sayonara, auf Wiedersehen, adios and adieu. Well miss you, to be sure. But youre asking us to choose between your petulance and our lives.
And thats really no choice at all.

Judge to US Capitol rioter: 'You've disgraced this country in the eyes of the world'
(CNN)A federal judge erupted at a Capitol riot defendant as he pleaded guilty on Friday, chastising him for participating in an "attack on our government" and warning him to stay on the "straight and narrow," in the latest strong reaction from the judiciary to the insurrection.
"You've disgraced this country in the eyes of the world, and my inclination is to lock you up," Judge Reggie B. Walton said to defendant Anthony Mariotto, who pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge moments before. "I found it outrageous that American citizens would do what you did."
"To see someone destroy, or try to destroy, the Capitol is very troubling to me," Walton added.
Walton has been outspoken in his disdain for the events of January 6 and has repeatedly said that the riot would undermine his ability to teach "about the greatness of America abroad."

I think it's really hard to talk about politics right now...
...because the bad guys kind of won, and the people who are supposed to be the good guys seem to spend most of their time negotiating with the phantom decency they imagine the other side hashttps://twitter.com/GothamGirlBlue/status/1441594764156153856?s=20

STILL The Reason Why We CAN'T Have Nice Things In The USA
That's why the answer to the question [only ever asked of Democrats], "How ya gonna pay for it?" is always, always, always, "The same way we pay for our unlimited supply of military hardware."If youve been following the reconciliation debate in which people have been absolutely obsessed with the supposedly terrifying number of $3.5 trillion you might have thought the defense bill would produce enormous breast-beating about out-of-control spending and debt. After all, that $3.5 trillion is over 10 years, or $350 billion a year, less than half of what were going to spend on the military.
But thats not what happened. Apart from a brief to-do over whether the bill would include funding for Israels Iron Dome defense system, the defense bill moved through the process efficiently and with little controversy.
There were no painful negotiations, no ultimatums, no desperate threats. President Biden did not have to beg and plead to secure anyones vote. And you sure didnt see centrist members of Congress expressing deep concern about its size, claiming it was irresponsible to add so much to the national debt although well easily be spending $8 or $9 trillion on the military over the same 10-year period.

This was not some crazy plot of some obscure dude in a shack in the mountains-It was TFG's Plan.
On Monday, we learned that after last years election, John Eastman, a well-connected lawyer advising former president Donald Trump, outlined a six-point plan to overturn the outcome of the election and install Trump as Americas leader. They planned to cut the voters actual choice, Democrat Joe Biden, out of power: as Trump advisor Steve Bannon put it, they planned to kill the Biden presidency in the crib. This appears to have been the plan that Trump and his loyalists tried to execute on January 6.
That is, we now have written proof of an attempt to destroy our democracy and replace it with an autocracy.
This was not some crazy plot of some obscure dude in a shack in the mountains; this was a plan of the president of the United States of America, and it came perilously close to succeeding. The president of the United States tried to overturn the results of an electionthe centerpiece of our democracyand install himself into power illegitimately.
If this is not a hair-on-fire, screaming emergency, what is?

BOSTON AP: Judge denies state police union bid for vaccination delay
BOSTON (AP) A Superior Court judge has turned down a request by the union that represents 1,800 Massachusetts State Police troopers to delay Gov. Charlie Bakers state employee coronavirus vaccine mandate.
The State Police Association of Massachusetts filed a lawsuit last week saying the Oct. 17 deadline would cause troopers irreparable harm and they wanted more time to negotiate the terms and conditions of their employment.
A delay in implementation of the mandate would not serve the public interest, Judge Jackie Cowin said in Thursdays decision.
Specifically, the public interest is, unquestionably, best served by stopping the spread of the virus, in order to protect people from becoming ill, ensure adequate supply of medical services, and curtail the emergence of new, deadlier variants of the virus, the decision said.
