Lysette Anthony: I answered the door. Harvey Weinstein pushed me inside and raped me in my own hallway

The British actress Lysette Anthony says she was raped by Weinstein after he turned up at her door one morning
JAMES SHAW/BRITISH SOAP AWARDS

It was about 15 years ago that my close friend Lysette Anthony told me that Harvey Weinstein had raped her. She said she had told only two other people about the assault. It was an ugly secret hidden inside her like a tumour. Last week, summoning up her courage, she reported the Hollywood producer to the Metropolitan police.

The moment I first heard of the allegations being made about Weinstein’s predatory sexual behaviour, I thought of Lysette. As if telepathically, she rang me from Liverpool where she stars in the popular Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks.

She said she felt emotional and conflicted about going to the police. A few years ago she had been embroiled in an ugly court case against her son’s father and the case had been thrown out on a procedural hitch because she had muddled a key date.

By her own admission, dates are not her strong point and she was afraid of what she might be put through if she had to endure another lengthy and harrowing legal process. Yet the conclusion she came to was this: “I can’t stand by and see all these brave women tell the truth and not stand up alongside them.”

Shrinks take to streets to demand narcissistic Trumps ouster

They’re not nuts about Trump.

Some 125 psychologists and other mental health professionals marched along lower Broadway Saturday to demand that President Trump be thrown out of office, based on a constitutional clause allowing presidents to be ousted when their cabinets decide they are ” unable to discharge the powers and duties” of their job.

“We can sense the power of Trump’s underlying fear that he is worthless and weak by how intensely he resists and retaliated against any criticism,” said Harry Segal, a Cornell University psychologist.

“No matter how minor, he can’t let anything go.”

I think this was great, but you don't need an M.D. in Psychiatry to see that Trump is disturbed, as in a narcissistic psychopath. I'm afraid the hard core base will never care. Hopefully the less-delusional can be persuaded.

Edge browser: how can MS improve it ?

First on my list is, more ***** extensions.

Second is, make it compatible with the most popular sites on the net. Too often it's not compatible, for me anyway.

Third is, they need a shite-ton more configuration options.

Fourth is, they lack a lot of good right-click options that Opera has and other browsers have.

Ok, your turn.

Jimmy Kimmel says he wants to have Trump on his show: 'I feel like I could turn him around on a couple of things'

Jimmy Kimmel admits he would love to have frequent target President Donald Trump as a guest on his hit live show, telling ABC News, "I have a lot of questions for Donald Trump."

"Maybe this is crazy, but I feel like I could turn him around on a couple of things," Kimmel said in an exclusive interview with ABC News' Amy Robach for "Good Morning America." "I think he needs to be surrounded by better people. ... I just think he's changed positions so frequently.

"I want to know what happened to the Donald Trump ... who was a Democrat?" added Kimmel, who has recently made headlines for speaking out about issues such as gun violence and health care.

The comedian, who will be broadcasting his hit live show, "Jimmy Kimmel Live," from his birthplace of Brooklyn, New York, all throughout next week, told ABC News that "Brooklyn is a magical place."

Bob Weinstein calls brother Harvey 'predator': 'It's a sickness that's inexcusable'

http://ew.com/movies/2017/10/14/bob-weinstein-harvey-weinstein-sexual-misconduct/

Bob Weinstein can only describe the situation with Harvey Weinstein as “a waking nightmare.” During an emotional and heated exchange with The Hollywood Reporter, Bob claimed his older brother is “depraved” and called him a “predator” in the wake of numerous sexual misconduct allegations.

“For me, I thought he was literally just going out there cheating in a pervasive way,” Bob said. “It wasn’t like he even had a mistress. It was one after another and that I was aware of. But as far as being in a room and hearing the description in The New York Times? No way. No [effing] way was I aware that that was the type of predator that he was. And the way he convinced people to do things? I thought they were all consensual situations.”

On Oct. 5, The Times published a bombshell exposé that revealed eight women accusing Harvey of sexual harassment. That number ballooned in the days that followed as both the Times and The New Yorker published stories featuring numerous other allegations of sexual misconduct against Harvey, including claims of sexual assault. Said a representative for Harvey in a statement, “Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances. Mr. Weinstein obviously can’t speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to any women who have made allegations on the record, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual. Mr. Weinstein has begun counseling, has listened to the community and is pursuing a better path. Mr. Weinstein is hoping that, if he makes enough progress, he will be given a second chance.”

Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Kate Beckinsale, Heather Graham, Rose McGowan, Cara Delevingne, and Mira Sorvino are just some of the women who’ve come forward with allegations.

New Jersey Man Finds $24 Million Winning Lottery Ticket in an Old Shirt

Jimmie Smith, 68, of East Orange, N.J. New York Lottery

A New Jersey man discovered he won a $24.1 million New York lottery jackpot after finding the lucky ticket in an old shirt just days before it expired.

Jimmie Smith, 68, was prompted to check his shirt pocket in May after seeing a TV report about how time was running out for the winner to claim the lottery prize. In Smith's shirt was the winning ticket, among a pile of other tickets he had not checked.

"I stood there for a minute thinking, 'Do I see what I think I see?'" Smith told NJ.com. "I had to stick my head out the window and breathe some fresh air. I was in serious doubt. I really had to convince myself this was real."

Smith came forward as the winner on May 23, though lottery officials did not announce he had won until Wednesday. Smith said he has bought lottery tickets in New York and New Jersey since the 1960s but does not always bother to check if they win.

FCC Commissioner blasts new TV standard as a 'household tax'

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/10/13/fcc_tv_standard_household_tax/

Jessica Rosenworcel, a commissioner at America's broadcast watchdog the FCC, has criticized a proposed set of TV standards as a "household tax," due to its lack of backwards compatibility.

Addressing a conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington DC this week (we have no idea why either), Rosenworcel complained [PDF] that the federal regulator "is about to rush this standard to market without understanding the consequences for consumers."

Not only will Americans have to pick up the cost of developing the new standard – ATSC version 3 – through higher cable bills, she warned, but since the standard is not compatible with the current ATSC 1.0 spec, it also means everyone will need to buy a new television set, set-top box, or similar, to use it.

"This is not a great boon for consumers," she argued. "It's a tax on every household with a television." Instead, she proposed that the FCC "go back to the drawing board" and come up with a way to move over to the new standard "that better serves the public interest."
